About the role

SDET is a type of Software Engineer, specialised and focused on Testing and Quality.
The role of a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is crucial in modern software engineering teams, especially those operating in agile and DevOps environments. SDETs are highly skilled engineers who focus on developing and maintaining automated frameworks to ensure software quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle and as a result, is measured primarily on the influence it has in the way the software is designed, built and behaves once live - demonstrated by DORA metrics Defect Leakage, Mean Time To Recover (MTTR).

Role AccountabilitiesTest Automation Development:
  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of automated test frameworks tools and libraries in code to enable the software engineers to deliver faster and integrate test automation from the beginning (TDD, BDD).
  • Co-develop and maintain automated test scripts and test frameworks with software engineers.
  • Assist in the implementation and optimization of automated testing strategies for continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
Performance and Security Testing:
  • Assist in developing and executing performance and load tests to ensure the system can handle high volumes of traffic.
  • Support the implementation of security testing practices to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct thorough testing of software applications, including unit, integration, system, and acceptance tests under guidance.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects using bug tracking tools.
  • Collaborate with developers to debug and resolve issues.
Skills & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Some experience with test automation development using tools such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cypress, or similar (internships, projects, or coursework).
  • Familiarity with performance testing tools such as Apache Bench, JMeter, or LoadRunner, or modern alternatives like K6, Gatling, Locust.
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
