Our purpose is to make it easy for people to save and invest for a better future. We are looking for great people to join us, so please come and invest in YOUR future at Hargreaves Lansdown.

We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they don't tick every box. If you're excited about working for us and have most of the skills or experience we're looking for, please go ahead and apply. We’d love to hear from you!

About the role

HL is building a brand‑new React Native platform from the ground up — a foundational mobile architecture that every future mobile team at Hargreaves Lansdown will build on. You’ll be joining a small, focused team responsible for creating this platform, shaping the tools, patterns, and developer experience that power the next generation of HL’s mobile apps.
Instead of simply picking up tickets and building isolated screens, you’ll help define the core architecture, testing strategy, design system, and developer tooling that underpin the entire mobile ecosystem. This is a rare opportunity to work at platform level within one of the UK’s largest investment platforms, used by over a million clients.

Role Overview

You’ll work closely with two senior engineers to design, build, and validate the foundations of HL’s new React Native platform. This includes building the first features that prove out the architecture, creating the testing and tooling infrastructure, and supporting other teams as they begin adopting the new system.

You’ll take ownership from concept to implementation, write clean and maintainable TypeScript, contribute to architectural decisions, and help shape the long‑term direction of HL’s mobile technology.

What You’ll Do
  • Build the first features on the new React Native platform, validating the architecture before wider adoption.
  • Create the testing infrastructure, including E2E tests, mock APIs, and shared utilities.
  • Develop developer‑experience tooling such as project scaffolding, linting configurations, and onboarding guides.
  • Build accessible design‑system components used across every screen in the app.
  • Work with a real GraphQL API powering a financial application used by over a million people.
  • Support other teams as they begin building on the platform you helped create.
What We’re Looking For
  • 2+ years of professional experience with React Native or React.
  • Strong TypeScript skills and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.
  • Someone who writes tests because they value correctness, not because they’re told to.
  • Ability to pick up new tools and technologies quickly.
  • Curiosity about how things work at the platform level - architecture, tooling, patterns - not just feature delivery.
  • Strong React developers without RN experience are welcome; the mobile‑specific parts can be learned on the job.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with platform‑level engineering (design systems, tooling, architecture).
  • Familiarity with module federation, CI/CD pipelines, or security patterns.
  • Experience with mobile testing frameworks such as Appium.
  • Exposure to GraphQL and Apollo Client.
  • Interest in fintech or large‑scale consumer apps.
Interview Process

Stage 1 – Discussion with our Hiring Manager (30 mins) A conversation to explore your background, motivations, and fit for a platform‑focused engineering role.

Stage 2 – Technical Interview (60–90 mins) A deep dive into your React/React Native expertise, architecture thinking, and problem‑solving approach.

Package

We offer a competitive salary depending on experience, alongside a performance‑based bonus scheme.

Your total reward package includes:

• 💰 Pension contribution

• 🎁 A wide range of lifestyle and wellbeing benefits

You’ll be joining a small, senior‑led team where you’ll have direct influence on architectural decisions and the opportunity to grow rapidly as an engineer.

Working Schedule

This role is based in HL’s Paddington Central office, a modern workspace designed for collaboration and focus.

We embrace a hybrid working model:

  • 1–2 days a week in the office

  • Remote flexibility for deep work and work‑life balance

This is a full‑time role, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

What Makes It Special?
  • 🌿 Rooftop gardens

  • 🏀 London’s highest rooftop basketball court

  • 🧘 Wellness amenities including showers, lockers, and fresh towels

  • 🚲 Secure bike storage and drying rooms

  • 🛋️ Stylish lounge and breakout spaces

  • 🌊 Canalside location near Little Venice

  • 🚆 Excellent transport links via Paddington and the Elizabeth Line

You’ll be joining at the very start of a major technical transformation - helping define the architecture, tools, and patterns that will shape HL’s mobile apps for years to come.
