What will I be doing?
You’ll take ownership of delivering a mix of discovery work and technical improvements, helping to evolve our GraphQL API and event gateway to meet the needs of a growing global client base. Alongside building and enhancing these core platform services, you’ll focus on improving the developer experience for internal teams using our APIs, making them easier to work with and more reliable. You’ll collaborate closely with teammates to refine shared systems and ensure consistency across the platform, while also contributing to keeping services running smoothly through team support and on-call participation.
As part of the wider engineering community, you’ll represent the API Platform team in forums such as health reviews and post-mortems, helping to continuously improve how we build and operate our systems.
About You
Ideally you’ll have:
- Experience building backend services, ideally with TypeScript, and confidence working with production systems and tooling.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks, while contributing to a small, high-impact team.
- Experience using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to support modern software delivery practices.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within cross-functional teams.
What will set you apart:
- Familiarity with functional programming concepts and an interest in, or experience with, Scala (our core service language).
- Experience building or maintaining services that expose GraphQL interfaces.
- Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, DynamoDB, or event-driven architectures using Kafka and Avro.
- An understanding of Site Reliability Engineering concepts, such as monitoring, resilience, and disaster recovery.
Why might this role not suit you?
We are going through a period of significant evolution which is exciting and with it brings lots of opportunity and challenging work, which is not for everyone. To be successful in this role, you will be excellent at operating in ambiguous, changing environments, balancing multiple priorities simultaneously and get enjoyment from making the complex, simple.
