Company Description

Sports betting, gaming and interactive entertainment is changing, and we’re leading that change. By putting people first. By placing exciting, engaging and entertaining experiences at more fingertips than ever before. We're pulling into pole position by pushing boundaries further. With innovation. With technology. But most importantly, with people like you. Because when you join Entain, it’s your game. So let’s win together.

Job Description

As a Software Engineer I (SEI) within Entain’s Game Development Engine team, you will support the development of the XG Editor/Manatee tool — our bespoke game configuration and visualisation environment. This role is designed as an ideal entry point for a capable and motivated engineer looking to develop their skills in game tooling and C++ development, under the guidance of an experienced Tech Lead.

You’ll contribute to feature development, bug fixing, testing, and user support while learning how technical tooling enables efficient slot game production. You’ll collaborate with engineers, designers, and artists to ensure the tool meets the practical needs of our game studios. This is a hands-on role with room to grow.

Are you ready to make a career change? Apply now!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the XG Editor/Manatee tool in C and C++

  • Implement user-facing features that support game teams in building scenes, configuring assets, and setting up game mechanics

  • Assist in the creation of visual tools such as drag-and-drop asset systems and layered game scenes

  • Support the simplification of standard game setups — e.g. meters, reels, paylines, and animation triggers

  • Fix bugs and contribute to testing efforts to ensure high-quality, stable tool performance

  • Take on small prototyping tasks to assist with visualisation and early testing of game logic and features

  • Follow coding standards and practices as defined by the Tech Lead

  • Participate in code reviews and team stand-ups

  • Learn from senior team members and proactively seek guidance to develop your technical and collaborative skills

  • Engage with users of the tool to understand feedback and support improvements

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A working knowledge of C or C++, either through education, personal projects, or early career experience

  • Basic understanding of game engines or interactive tooling environments

  • A willingness to learn and develop within a game technology team

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail

  • Ability to follow technical guidance and write clean, maintainable code

  • Familiarity with source control systems (Git or similar)

Desirable:

  • Exposure to visual editors, game frameworks, or UI tools#

  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration in a software or game development context

  • Understanding of real-time rendering or scene graph concepts

  • Awareness of mathematics used in games (e.g. random number generation, probability, or timing logic)
