What You'll Do
We are looking for a Technical Artist (Character Tech Artist/Technical Animator) to join our Developer Relations team. As part of this team, you will interact with our end users from various industries, locations, and experience levels to support their use of the MetaHuman product, supporting their character creation pipeline from initial concept to in-game deployment. You will help customers understand and solve complex challenges related to character animation, such as rigging, clothing, grooms, physics, and materials development while ensuring optimal performance in Unreal Engine. The ideal candidate is a proactive technical generalist with experience creating and animating game characters, passionate about digital humans, comfortable working across various character-related disciplines, and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge through demos, tutorials, documentation, and direct support.
In this role, you will
- Consult MetaHuman customers as they navigate complex problems in rigging, facial rigging, animation, groom setup, clothing, physics, and rendering
- Support customers through character pipeline workflows, troubleshooting, solving technical issues and debug and reproduce customer issues, providing clear samples and feedback
- Work closely with the development teams within Epic, serving as a direct liaison between them and our customers
- Represent Epic Games asynchronously on our support portal and in person by attending trade shows such as UEFest and traveling to visit customers directly
- Create and present knowledge-sharing resources such as live presentations, tutorials, and documentation
- Maintain conversations with internal and external multidisciplinary teams to influence the direction of the product through customer insights
- Advocate for our customers' adoption and continued use of MetaHuman and for continuously improving the MetaHuman platform
What we're looking for
- Self-motivated and excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate positively with our team and customers
- Proactive problem-solving attitude, with enthusiasm and curiosity to learn new technologies rapidly
- Professional experience as a technical artist or animator, particularly with character pipelines from modeling to animation, rigging, physics, and runtime optimization
- Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine, specifically in areas relevant to characters (Animation Blueprints, performance profiling with Insights, rendering, rigging, physics, etc.)
- Experience using Maya, Houdini, or other DCC applications
- Prior experience with or active interest in MetaHuman technology
- Experience with game development or VFX pipelines focused on digital human technologies
- Groom experience with Houdini or similar tools
- Technical writing background or experience creating customer-facing documentation
- Experience with FACS (Facial Action Coding System)-based facial rigs
