Social Media Marketing Intern

Location: London, United Kingdom | Employment type: Fixed-term internship (6 months)

 About our team

The Global Brand & Marketing team at SumUp shapes how over 4 million small businesses — and the people behind them — discover and connect with our brand. Our Social Media team sits right at the heart of that, building the strategic and operational foundation that builds our social media presence consistently across platforms, channels, and markets. We're now looking for a Social Media Marketing Intern who's as comfortable in a spreadsheet as they are spotting a trend — someone who can help us build something genuinely new, from the ground up.

 What you'll do
  • Show up to weekly editorial meetings with trend-spotted ideas, platform-specific recommendations, and a point of view on where social is heading
  • Keep a sharp eye on what competitors are doing across platforms, tracking what's working, what's changing, and where the opportunities are
  • Own the content calendar and asset libraries, keeping the team organised, resourced, and always ready to publish
  • Support the scheduling, publishing, and QA of content across channels, making sure everything that goes live looks and reads exactly as it should
  • Dig into social performance data and turn what you find into clear recommendations the team can actually act on
  • Track UGC trends, influencer activity, and audience conversations to keep our editorial direction fresh and informed
  • Scout new tools, AI applications, and automation opportunities that could make the social function sharper and more scalable
  • Help put together presentations for senior stakeholders that clearly communicate what the social team is doing, why it matters, and where it's going
You'll be great for this role if you
  • Genuinely understand how social media works across platforms — not just how to use them, but why content performs differently on TikTok versus LinkedIn versus Instagram
  • Enjoy working with data and can turn a set of numbers into a clear recommendation without losing the bigger picture
  • Are the kind of person who has five tabs open, a content calendar colour-coded, and still meets every deadline
  • Feel comfortable putting together a well-structured document or presentation and walking a room through it with confidence
  • Are always looking for a better way of doing things — whether that's a new tool, a smarter process, or a trend worth paying attention to
A peek into our selection process
  1. Our team will review your application
  2. If your profile matches our requirements, we'll send you a small business case to complete within 5 days
  3. We'll review your business case and, if it meets the requirements for the role, invite you to an interview with our Global Brand Director
  4. If you're successful in the first interview, you'll move on to a team interview where you will discuss the case
  5. We'll extend an offer to our top candidate

💰 This is a 6-month paid internship with a fixed annual compensation of £30,000 (pro-rated based on duration).
