What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Editor in Chief (Video & Social Media, Music), you'll transform our brands' approach to social media. Working with the Content Director, the editorial teams of our magazines and websites, and plugged in to our Social Media team, you’ll play a role in developing and delivering social media strategies, and growing and engaging audiences, for our world-leading music brands.

You'll shoot, edit and deliver social-first content across a variety of platforms and ensure that it meets brand guidelines and delivers commercial opportunities. You'll also work to maximise the potential of every single story we tell using social media, exploring new storytelling formats, and shooting, editing and distributing video.

As a music fan and a musician, you'll help build communities using social media. Creating and editing video, creating engaging posts, amplifying our content, replying to comments, listening to feedback, changing our relationship with the audience from one of “broadcast” (just firing links at the social audience) to something more organic and responsive. After all, we are the audience.

Work with print and online teams to produce top-quality written, graphic and video content for multiple brands – both lifestyle and music-making – to be distributed across our social media channels.

Help manage YouTube and all social channels, working with the Social media team to establish and instil best practice and work with the wider team to ensure all content we produce has a social media angle.

You'll be creating and helping with YouTube thumbnails, Instagram carousel posts, engagement graphics, vertical video edits (for YT Shorts, Insta and TikTok). You'll write punchy copy for descriptions, create video titles, and more, and talk to the audience in a language they recognise: understanding what they want, and the differing needs of a ‘music-making’ audience compared to a music-listening one.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
  • A proven track record and a resume packed with examples of your experience making social media content and growing an audience.
  • Ability to edit and shoot video with style and flair and a sense of storytelling
  • Experience in camera operation, with an eye for good set design and composition, and the ability to coach and direct on-screen talent.
  • Previous writing, scripting and editing experience. The ability to write engaging copy and compelling headlines.
  • An insightful understanding of the world of music and, in particular, music-making. Proficient music-making experience – an understanding of gear terminology, musical technique and history, and a wide-ranging taste in music is vital to connect with the communities around our brands.
  • As a music-fan and musician, you'll have an innate understanding of the differences in the music tribes which we majorly feature (modern rock, alternative, progressive and classic rock) and understanding of artists, instruments and content that will crossover.
  • A love of content and storytelling and the ability to switch gears, from brand to brand and content types, publishing a mix of entertainment, news, gear and technique content.
  • Proven commercial awareness and experience.
What's in it for you

The expected range for this role is £29,000 - £35,000.

This is a Hybrid role from our London or Bath Office, working three days from the office, two from home
