Job Description :

About the Function

Our Corporate Relations (CR) team are reputation experts, shaping and protecting the future of our business and much-loved brands. With the ambition to become one of the most trusted and respected consumer goods companies in the world, our CR team act as the link to our external stakeholders, managing critical relationships with the outside world including the press and media, investors and government organisations, as well as NGOs and our many partners.

Operating across different markets, brands, and business areas including Corporate Communications, Policy and ESG, we collaborate with people all around the world. Join our team of experts, and you'll play a crucial role in protecting and promoting who we are and what we do, and ultimately our licence to operate.

Context/Scope:

The Corporate Relations Function ensures Diageo’s license to operate, grow, and celebrate. By progressing in these areas, the function will help Diageo achieve its growth ambition of being both “best performing” and “most trusted and respected.”

Spirit of Progress, our sustainability action plan, supports our Growth Ambition and is a commercial imperative. It addresses significant environmental and social opportunities and risks such as harmful alcohol use, water stress, climate change, social inequality, biodiversity loss, and securing key agricultural raw materials. Spirit of Progress inspires pride among employees, differentiates us to partners and stakeholders, and enables long-term business success. It is a triple win for Diageo: supporting sustainability ambitions benefits customers, consumers, and our bottom line.

Taking credible actions in these areas preserves our license to operate in stakeholders' eyes while meeting our ambition to be the best performing consumer products company globally. By advocating responsible alcohol consumption; protecting consumer preference for our brands; attracting talent; ensuring operational resilience end-to-end; we do right by people, consumers, communities—and our business.

The Diageo in Society team plays a key role within Corporate Relations by embedding the Spirit of Progress action plan and leading impact measures that build credibility and competitive trust while telling compelling stories to internal and external stakeholders.

About the Role

Stakeholder expectations of how companies manage their social impact are increasing – from investors to legislators, customers and consumers. Our social impact strategy supports our commitment to do business the right way, mitigating any potential negative impacts on people and actively seeking to have a positive impact on society through our policies and programmes. This new role will support the delivery of our social impact strategy, meeting our stakeholders' expectations and protecting our license to operate and grow.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting our markets to implement our global policies and programmes across our priority areas for social impact.

  • Increasing our positive impact and driving continuous improvement through measurement, evaluation and learning.

  • Delivering capability building programmes to educate employees on social impact principles, policies, and best practices.

  • Ensuring compliance with our programme controls, reporting and assurance.

  • Liaising with corporate reporting teams in annual reporting cycles to support compliant social impact disclosures.

  • Conducting human rights due diligence for our direct operations and tracking progress against corrective action plans.

  • Supporting stakeholder information requests related to social impact.

Experience required:

  • Experience in social impact and human rights frameworks, measurement and reporting.

  • Strong analytical, project management and prioritisation skills.

  • Understanding markets operating within a wide variety of conditions, levels of development, legislative & policy frameworks, commercial considerations, and partner expectations – as well as global multi-functional complexity.

  • In-depth understanding of the Spirit of Progress plan with a specific focus on the CR-owned targets, the interdependencies and connections between them and the link with Diageo’s performance ambition.

  • Building strong networks, links, and credibility across the business.

  • The ability to act as a trusted partner to above-market and in-market stakeholders to surface and address risks and identify and accelerate opportunities to increase the rigour, controls, and governance of our ESG reporting.

  • Experience working across complex projects and teams across a multi-region, multi-functional organisation.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate a compelling vision and engage others to deliver.
