Job Responsibilities:

  • Create, optimize, validate and maintain SMT machine programs, recipes, libraries and revision-controlled backups for new product introduction (NPI), engineering changes and production transfers.
  • Perform BOM, CAD/centroid, package, polarity, rotation, feeder, nozzle and machine-library verification before program release; complete first-off/first-article validation with the cross-functional team.
  • Set up, adjust and support solder paste printers, pick-and-place equipment, conveyors, reflow ovens, AOI, SPI, laser markers and associated traceability systems.
  • Complete scheduled program changeovers and verify the correct product, revision, materials, tooling, stencil, paste, feeder setup and recipe before production start.
  • Maintain revision history, parameter-change records, controlled backups, setup sheets and other manufacturing documentation; ensure unauthorized program changes are prevented.
  • Troubleshoot line stops, defects, false calls, escapes, cycle-time constraints and equipment issues using structured problem-solving and data from SPI, AOI, machine logs and quality systems.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance and suppliers to implement containment, root-cause correction, mistake-proofing and continuous-improvement actions.
  • Support preventive maintenance, calibration/verification activities and daily equipment readiness checks in accordance with manufacturer and site requirements.

AOI PROGRAMMING & SUPPORT

  • Create and debug AOI programs from CAD/BOM and approved reference assemblies.
  • Define inspection coverage for presence/absence, polarity, orientation, OCR/OCV, placement and solder-joint conditions.
  • Optimize lighting, algorithms, libraries and thresholds; manage golden/reference data and revision control
  • Monitor false-call rate, defect escapes, repeat defects and inspection coverage; perform offline review and controlled program changes.

SPI / PRINT PROCESS

  • Create and optimize SPI programs for paste area, height, volume, offset and bridging.
  • Establish product-appropriate limits and review measurement trends without masking real defects.
  • Support printer setup: stencil, squeegee, pressure, speed, separation, underside cleaning and paste condition.
  • Use SPI data to drive printer correction and closed-loop improvement where installed; document reaction limits and escalation.

REFLOW OVEN PROFILING

  • Develop and verify product-specific thermal profiles using a calibrated profiler and representative thermocouple locations.
  • Evaluate ramp rate, soak, time above liquidus, peak temperature, cooling rate and assembly ΔT against solder paste, component and customer limits.
  • Create, approve and maintain oven recipes; verify conveyor speed, zone settings and nitrogen settings where applicable.
  • Perform periodic oven performance verification, re-profile after defined changes, and retain profile evidence and recipe revisions.
  • Maintain component, package, feeder and nozzle libraries; update pick-and-place programs and optimize placement sequence, head utilization and cycle time without compromising process controls.
  • Support solder paste storage verification, thaw/use-life controls and required sign-off; follow approved material handling and traceability processes.
  • Support first article/first-off approval activities, process capability studies, defect pareto analysis and corrective actions as part of the cross-functional team.
  • Support Nexim or successor manufacturing systems, barcode/serialization, route validation and production data integrity.
  • Investigate and correct SMT quality issues and perform other related duties as required.

QUALITY, SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  • Follow customer-specific requirements, control plans, PFMEA, work instructions, reaction plans, quality alerts and applicable automotive quality-system requirements.
  • Follow ESD-safe handling requirements, moisture-sensitive-device controls, chemical/SDS requirements, lockout/tagout, machine guarding and all established safe work practices.
  • Escalate any suspected safety risk, wrong program/revision, loss of traceability, out-of-control condition or potential quality escape; stop the process when required by site procedure.
  • Uphold Magna Production System principles, standardization, one-piece flow, 5S and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electronics, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 1 to less than 3 years of work related experience.
