Founded in August 2012, International Women’s Initiative (IWI) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) working towards the promotion of women's rights and gender equality around the world. We believe that we will achieve this through the creation of volunteer and professional networks and the provision of a platform for engaging in constructive commentary and ideas-sharing in the field. Funds raised by the organisation are used to support and resource partnerships with community-based organisations or projects. We are currently focusing on advancing our Safe Birthing Programme which seeks to reduce the high levels of maternal mortality in the Amolatar District, Uganda. 

Job Description

Position Details

Where: The position is carried out remotely from home, for this reason it is essential that you have access to private internet and a computer, as well as good organisational and time management skills.

Time Commitment: The minimum commitment is an average of 20 hours per week including a weekly one on one meeting with the Site Coordinator Tracy Blackstock.

Duties: Reporting directly to the Site Coordinator, Tracy Blackstock You will develop a workload of research and social development duties and execute strategies for solicitation of these prospects in line with IWI’s overall vision. This individual will also be expected to work independently and to be self-motivated in initiating research material in a clear and concise manner that supports IWI’s Profile. He/she will also be expected to create and implement strategies for cultivation, solicitation and closure, and set and achieve activity goals.

Responsibilities:

Having successfully completed the recruitment process, international women’s initiative volunteers will be asked to undertake some, or all, of the following tasks:

  • Promote confidentiality of International Women’s Initiative and of research participants at all times
  • Maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of site coordination; may coordinate the collection and analysis of research data
  • Perform aspects of research protocol, as required, in accordance with specified program objectives
  • Document all correspondence and communication pertinent to site operations
  • Interact and communicate effectively with Site Coordinator, other site personnel, research participants and partner organisations
  • Comply with all the rules and regulations as applicable to assigned duties
  • A good level of proficiency in Microsoft office.
  • Keep up to date with the major issues and solutions pertaining to the safer birthing programme
  • Take an active role in the safer birthing programme Strategic Planning process
  • Undertake other tasks as requested by site coordinator.
  • Complete monitoring promptly and feedback accordingly
  • Receive informal support and formal supervision as agreed with the site coordinator.  Attend periodic support groups meetings via skype when required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Previous experience in and NGO preferably in research capacity
  • Able to work under pressure of deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and organise own work
  • Initiative and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues and especially direct line manager
  • Good team worker
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent IT skills; comfortable and confident enough with computers to be able to adapt to and use different data entry and programme management software packages as well as Microsoft Office, Skype, Gmail and other online communication software
  • The desire to grow with/within the organisation and promote its development

Desirable

  • Previous experience in Social Development
