We’re looking for a senior video producer to plan, record and edit episodes of Today in Focus: The Latest and produce content for social feeds.
Hosted by Lucy Hough, Today in Focus: The Latest aims to make sense of a rapidly-changing news cycle and brings our audience up to speed on the big news story of the day in just 10 minutes.
This position is a 12-month fixed-term contract or internal staff secondment on a 5-day week working pattern.
About the role
- Generate ideas for podcast episodes, research, brief presenters and guests for interviews, record in studio or remotely, script, edit and mix to professional standards, always on tight deadlines
- Book on air talent, both internal and external
- Work closely with the executive producer, producer and host to guarantee the highest levels of creativity, editorial and legal standards
- Work in conjunction with the Today in Focus team to ensure Today in Focus: The Latest complements the Today in Focus output
- Play an active part in the Guardian’s multimedia team and looking for opportunities to showcase our journalism and values in an audio and video form
- Contribute to and occasionally producing other Guardian podcasts as required
- Stand in for the executive producer where necessary and assisting in editorial planning
- Work with other Guardian departments including social, marketing and membership, where required, to assist discoverability and promotion of podcasts
About you
- Experience of working in video podcasting or broadcast news
- Experience in editing audio and video news
- Experience with Adobe audio and video editing software: able to edit smoothly and accurately at pace
- Ability to script and edit video/audio
- Experienced in news or current affairs journalism and popular culture
- An understanding of Today in Focus and what makes a good episode for Today in Focus: The Latest
- Great journalistic instincts and editorial rigour
- Creativity – able to find new angles on major news stories
- Passion for audio and video podcast production
- Comfortable recording audio and video in studio and on location
- Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role.

We operate in a hybrid environment working at least three days a week from our offices in King’s Cross in London.
The salary for this NUJ position starts from £63,712, with a package commensurate with the skills, level of experience and responsibilities of the position.
