Are you looking for a career move that will put you at the heart of a global financial institution? Then bring your exceptional strategic leadership, comprehensive business acumen, and payments expertise to Citi’s Payments Product team.

By joining Citi, you will become part of a global organisation whose mission is to serve as a trusted partner to our clients by responsibly providing financial services that enable growth and economic progress.

Team/Role Overview:

The successful candidate will join the UK and Europe Cluster Payments team, focusing on strategically managing, positioning, and driving Citi's Payments & Receivables franchise across the UK, Europe, and global markets.

This role demands a highly experienced and influential Payments Industry & Regulatory Liaison Leader who possesses a good understanding of payments products and the wider industry ecosystem in UK and Europe. The payments landscape is undergoing transformative change driven by new technologies, evolving market infrastructures, non-traditional market entrants, and active regulatory agendas.

In this critical leadership role, you will act as the principal bridge between the external payments industry (regulators, working groups, central market infrastructures, standards bodies) and Citi’s internal business stakeholders (Product Management, Sales, Operations, Technology, Compliance, and Government Affairs). You will ensure Citi is not merely responsive to change but actively shaping the future of payments through forward-looking thought leadership, consultation leadership, strategic policy steer, and advanced AI-enabled market intelligence.

What You’ll Do:
  • Define & Steer Industry Strategy: Formulate and execute a comprehensive Industry & Regulatory Engagement Strategy that places Citi’s Payments, Platform Services and Liquidity business at the forefront of key industry developments, firmly cementing Citi as the premier thought leader among clients, competitors, and regulators.
  • Mastery of Payments Products & Industry Landscape: Maintain a deep, granular understanding of Citi's payments product suite (Domestic Payments, High-Value Clearing, Cross-Border Payments, Instant/Instant-adjacent rails, Receivables, Banking as a Service, Payment acceptance and ecommerce solutions) as well as Platform Services and liquidity - understanding of evolving industry dynamics, regulatory mandates, and market infrastructure upgrades across the UK, Europe, and global corridors.
  • Lead Consultations & Working Groups: Actively identify, evaluate, and prioritize participation in critical regulatory consultations and continue to evaluate participation in industry task forces, and market committees (e.g., UK Finance, Pay.UK, European Payments Council [EPC], EBA CLEARING / EBA Group, and Key Financial Market Infrastructures [FMIs]). Lead Citi's formal consultation responses and strategic representations to ensure our commercial and client interests are proactively represented.
  • Bridge External Dynamics with Internal Stakeholders: Serve as the central conduit translating complex external industry shifts, technical standards (e.g., ISO 20022 evolution), and legislative mandates into actionable insights for internal leadership. Partner closely with Global, Regional, and Cluster Product Managers to align product roadmaps and strategic investments with upcoming market changes.
  • Champion AI-Powered Market Intelligence & Efficiency: Champion the integration of AI and advanced analytical tooling to continuously scan the market, synthesize incoming regulatory papers, track competitor moves, extract actionable intelligence from industry consultations, and rapidly repurpose existing organizational knowledge for maximum operational and strategic leverage.
  • Client Advisory & Commercial Impact: Support and elevate the Client Advisory proposition by helping corporate and institutional clients distill emerging regulatory and industry developments (such as PSD3/PSR, Instant Payments Regulation, Open Banking and Digital Currencies), translating complex market shifts into clear impacts on their cash management structures.
  • Proactive Risk Management & Governance: Foster a proactive risk and controls culture with a "CEO mindset," assessing regulatory and systemic compliance risks early in the policy lifecycle, ensuring transparency, and protecting the franchise across all external touchpoints.

What We’ll Need From You:
  • Extensive Payments Product & Leadership Experience: Extensive, progressive experience in Payments and strategic leadership within the financial services landscape, with particular depth in UK and European domestic and cross-border payment ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated Industry Authority & Representation: Experience in representing a tier-one institution in external industry forums, regulatory working groups, standard-setting committees, and public policy consultations.
  • Deep Payments Acumen: Nuanced understanding of end-to-end payment processing, clearing and settlement mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and data flows, coupled with a forward-looking perspective on emerging payment rails and fintech innovations.
  • AI & Modern Tooling Competence: Practical experience or demonstrable aptitude in leveraging AI tools and automated intelligence platforms within financial services.
  • Executive Communication & Influence: Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills with proven ability to influence diverse stakeholders—from engineering teams and product architects to senior executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and C-suite client treasurers.
  • Strategic Problem Solving & Synthesis: Highly developed analytical and conceptual capabilities, with the ability to navigate ambiguous, complex regulatory environments and translate theoretical policy into commercial and operational opportunities.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Strong cross-functional leadership skills, capable of driving consensus across matrixed organizations including Product, Technology, Operations, Compliance, and Public Affairs.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or or equivalent professional qualification.

What We Can Offer You:

This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to build comprehensive knowledge of Citi’s global Payments Business and play a pivotal leadership role in driving industry change at a premier global financial institution. Every day will present high-impact challenges that will sharpen your strategic, technical, and leadership capabilities.
