The Impact You Will Have

Walker & Dunlop is seeking a talented Senior Vice President & General Counsel, EMEA, who will report directly to Walker & Dunlop’s Global General Counsel, to support the growth and expansion of our London-based commercial real estate capital markets and property sales business throughout Europe.

This is a unique opportunity to develop and lead a new in-house legal and compliance team advising on a broad range of complex commercial real estate legal and compliance matters. You will partner closely with senior executives, including the Senior Managing Director, Head – EMEA Capital Markets, and other members of our legal team on the expansion of commercial real estate debt brokerage and property sales businesses throughout Europe.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a legal subject matter expert for commercial real estate capital markets and property sales transactions, including multi-jurisdictional legal and regulatory compliance requirements across Europe.

  • Lead negotiations for cross-border commercial real estate capital markets and property sales engagements across a variety of European jurisdictions.

  • Establish and maintain required licenses, including an FCA license, and related real estate and financial services AML and other compliance programmes.

  • Develop and deliver compliance training, awareness programmes, and communications to business units and front-line staff, to embed a strong compliance culture.

  • Advise on data protection requirements applicable to our operations.

  • Advise on corporate governance requirements relating to our European operations and perform corporate secretarial functions for our legal entities.

  • Collaborate with other members of the Legal, Technology, Accounting, and other functional teams to integrate U.S.-based and international compliance efforts.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Office attendance is 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (GMT) Monday through Friday.

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years’ PQE as a solicitor, with strong commercial real estate transactional and compliance experience.

  • Proven senior counsel experience with in-house leadership in commercial real estate transactions, licensing, and compliance.

  • In-house legal experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Superior business acumen with the ability to balance legal issues with business objectives.

  • Excellent attention to detail, judgment, flexibility, and dependability.

  • Effective communication skills with a variety of contacts, including outside counsel, senior management, and business colleagues.

  • High standards of integrity and good judgment; inclination to collaborate on processes and outcomes.

  • Commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes.

  • Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders.
