About 9fin

The world's largest asset class, debt, operates with the worst data.

Technology has revolutionized equity markets with electronic trading, quant algos and instantaneous news. However, in debt capital markets, the picture is completely different. It still behaves like it’s in the 1980s; trillions of dollars of trades are placed over the phone, news is slow, and corporate credit information is imperfect and scattered.

Our mission is to change this.

9fin's proprietary technology delivers fast and comprehensive financial, credit, legal & ESG analysis. Our clients are able to make faster, more informed decisions, win more business and most importantly, save time.

Our fast growing list of clients include 9 of the top 10 Investment Banks, leading Asset Managers, Hedge Funds and Law Firms.

About this role

We are hiring our first Senior User Researcher to help scale how we learn from users across our product teams. This is a unique opportunity to shape how research is done at 9fin, working closely with our product designers and PMs to deepen our understanding of users in the complex world of finance.

Your findings will have a real impact on the products we ship to our customers. To be effective, you don't need any knowledge of the Debt Capital Markets industry, but you should be eager to learn and excited to dive deep into this product area.

Every day is different, but here are a few things you might have worked on recently if you were already part of the team:

  • Partnering with product teams to plan research sessions and prepare interview materials.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key users to facilitate ongoing research.

  • Working alongside designers and PMs in user sessions, asking insightful questions while helping them gather the context they need.

  • Helping teams make sense of what we learn and suggesting practical ways to improve our research.

  • Tracking and organising our user research activities to ensure we hear from a diverse range of users and don't over-rely on the same people.

  • Running research sessions to validate new feature ideas and identify pain points.

  • Finding creative ways to get actionable user feedback despite the time constraints of finance professionals.

  • Creating lightweight ways to share research insights that actually get used by the team.

You'll be our first dedicated User Researcher, so you'll need to balance between doing hands-on research and helping others do research better. While we value academic rigor, we're more focused on getting actionable insights that drive product decisions.

About you

If these traits describe you, we encourage you to apply and be part of the team:

  • You're pragmatic about research. You know how to balance research rigor with the need for quick, actionable insights. You're comfortable adapting your approach based on time and resource constraints.

  • You're an effective teacher. You can coach others on research best practices and help them improve their own research skills. You know how to share your knowledge in ways that stick.

  • You're a strong facilitator. You know how to keep sessions engaging and on track while creating space for the team to gather the insights they need.

  • You focus on impact. You've learned how to select and communicate research insights so that they actually influence product decisions.

  • You build strong relationships. You can maintain ongoing relationships with users and stakeholders. You know how to make the most of limited time with busy professionals.

  • You're comfortable with complexity. We're building dedicated tools for finance professionals, which isn't an easy task. You should be excited about learning a complex domain and helping others navigate it.

Our benefits

We’re a scaling start up and we enjoy sharing our success, when the company succeeds, we always reinvest that in our people. We also offer huge amounts of responsibility, an abundance of opportunity for growth and a platform to truly excel.

Time off

  • Work abroad for up to 3 months a year

  • 1 month paid sabbatical after 5 years of service

A note from the hiring manager

“9fin is a great place to work. We’re a friendly, ambitious and motivated team. I have been here for more than 6 years, and I still come to work excited each day.

We are on a mission to build a world-class product for finance professionals. We're not here to mimic the stagnant competitors; we're here to really move the needle. To build something delightful, intuitive and user-focused.
Design will continue to be a key part of 9fin’s success. If you join 9fin’s Design Team, your work will have a direct impact.”
