We're looking for a curious, user-focused, and action-oriented Senior Technical Writing Manager who will be responsible for managing a team of globally distributed Technical Writers.
About the role
As a Senior Technical Writing Manager, you are in a hands-on management position reporting to the Head of Product Content. You will play an active role in the delivery of technical writing commitments for developers.cloudflare.com. We follow a Git-based docs-as-code workflow while always looking for ways to improve productivity and our documentation processes. The work you and your team will do will be seen by millions of our users globally.
What you'll do
- Manage a world-class team of Technical Writers.
- Make sure the team is focused on the most important things by ensuring Technical Writers are balancing prioritized features with other content, strategy, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and develop holistic content strategies.
- Use quantitative data (analytics, user surveys, etc.) to inform content recommendations.
- Manage documentation improvement efforts.
- Ensure documentation deadlines are met.
- Help Technical Writers refine writing skills by reviewing content and providing feedback.
- Create processes that keep documentation up to date and discoverable.
- Optimize the content intake process from content contributors from the Cloudflare team and open source community.
Examples of desirable skills, knowledge, and experience
- 7+ years managing, mentoring, and training teams of Technical Writers
- Demonstrated experience using Git on the command line, ideally in a docs-as-code environment in addition to familiarity with content authoring tools (Contentful, Github, Bitbucket, etc.)
- Experience working on developer tools or with technical subject matter
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across a company, its customers, and/or open-source communities
Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.
- For Colorado-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $181,000 - $221,000.
- For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $202,000 - $246,000.
- For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $212,000 - $260,000
