A fantastic opportunity is available to join the bank as a Senior Solution Architect in Santander CTO.

Here you’ll work closely with other architecture teams, eg, Enterprise, Technical, Data & Security Architecture and will collaborate with Business and IT colleagues in Santander UK, as well as Santander Global Architecture.

Here you’ll provide technical guidance and leadership on an ongoing basis to colleagues across the architecture community and lead a team of Solution Architects, supporting their professional development, as well as day to day management support.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Providing Architectural leadership during the initiation phases of programmes
  • Managing a team of Architects aligned to your portfolio
  • Taking ownership for the resolution of issues within programmes and ensure alignment to strategy and policy
  • Identifying and mitigating risks associated with solution architecture decisions, including performance bottleneck and integration challenges
  • Supporting talent development across the architecture community
  • Providing mentorship, coaching, and training to less experienced architects to enhance technical skills, foster professional growth and promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement

What you’ll bring:

These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:

  • Experience of leading solution architecture and design for large programmes, ideally in application of Fraud detection and prevention in Retail and Corporate banking journeys, as well as application of techniques for authentication across end-users and devices within a complex financial international organisation
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience of architecture across a range of domains, technologies or industries
  • Effective in a team setting, managing and mentoring Solution Architects, contributing to collective targets and ensuring compliance with best practices and architectural standards
  • Experienced in reviewing and enhancing the quality/maturity of architecture produced by the team, ensuring adherence to standards and principles and where required to coach/ mentor and provide guidance on solution architecture and governance, to team members
  • The ability to learn fast - new concepts and skills - and deal calmly with situations under pressure

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Experience within Financial Services across one or more of the following business domains:
    • Retail Banking
    • Corporate Banking
    • Cards & Payments
    • Digital Technology
    • Banking Products (Mortgages, Loans, Accounts etc)
    • Functions (HR, Procurement etc.)
    • Treasury & Risk
  • Team Leadership Experience
  • Knowledge of adjacent architectural areas (e.g. Data, Infrastructure, Security architecture)

What else you need to know:

This role is a permanent position to be based in Milton Keynes.

We want our people to thrive at work and home, and also be able to deliver the best outcomes for our customers and to help each other develop. To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).

If you apply for this role in this location, it’s important you consider your travelling distance, time and cost from your home to the office location.

1st  Stage – A 60 minute virtual interview consisting of a mixture of competency and technical questions

2nd Stage – A 60 minute face to face, or virtual interview (depending on your circumstances), consisting of technical questions and wider team introduction.

  • Eligible for a discretionary performance-related annual bonus.
  • We put 8% of salary into your pension, even if you don’t contribute yourself. We’ll pay in up to 12.5% of salary, if you contribute as well, and you can take some of our contribution in cash if you prefer.
  • 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, which increases to 31 days after 5yrs service, with the option to purchase up to 5 contractual days per year.
