ABOUT THIS ROLE: 

We are on the lookout for Senior Software Engineers to help build the next generation of features for Smart Shield, our patent pending SaaS security product built for Workday.  

Our customers use our product to secure their data, ensuring users only see the data that is required to do their job, protecting our customers most sensitive data  read more. 

You will be using technologies such as Java 21 (Spring Boot, Cloud Gateway), AWS Lambda, Redis and React. You will work within a small, collaborative team comprised of developers, product owners, business analysts, automated testers and designers. Our self-organising teams follow applicable agile methodologies, releasing at least once per week to our global customers. 

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real impact on an early-stage novel SaaS security product.  

We have expanded our product coverage significantly, unlocking new addressable markets and as such we have planned an exciting technical roadmap which includes an event-driven re-architecture, re-implementation of our core APIs and consolidating authentication across our product suite, among others. 

You will also work with lead engineersarchitects and our product team to help build out our customer-focused roadmaps. Through proof of concept and, assumption testsyou will design solutions that challenge the problemsfaced by our customers and prospects. 
 
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE BUSINESS: 

As a Senior Software Engineer you’ll be responsible for developing high quality solutions which delight our customers and impact the lives of users worldwide. It’s a fast-paced environment so it is important for you to make sound, reasoned decisions. You’ll do this whilst learning about new technologies and approaches, with talented colleagues that will help you to learn, develop and grow as you, in turn, mentor those around you. 
 
MINIMUM (ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Commercial experience building backend services in Java. 

  • Commercial experience building modern web applications in React. 

  • Proficient in designing, building, testing and maintaining modern software applications. 

  • Experience of applying development best practices and patterns in relation to security, scalability and performance. 

  • Contributing to technical decisions and direction in a collaborative team environment, including architecture, estimation, product planning, user story/requirement creation. 

  • Experience of design and development across multiple layers of an application. 

  • Mentoring junior team members. 

 
DESIRABLE: 

  • Hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native solutions on AWS, including event-driven/serverless patterns (Lambda), asynchronous messaging (SQS/SNS), distributed caching (ElastiCache) and NoSQL data stores (DocumentDB). 

  • Experience working with API gateway patterns, ideally using Spring Cloud Gateway. 

  • Experience integrating and operating modern authentication and identity standards such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML and JWT. 

  • Experience working on commercial SaaS products, ideally within the security domain.

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate issues to technical and non-technical people. 

  • Experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery techniques. 

  • Experience of debugging and troubleshooting live applications. 

  • Active participation in knowledge sharing activities, both within the team and with wider non-technical audiences. 

  • Experience of multiple programming languages and data storage technologies. 

  • Experience of balancing technical decisions with user needs and commercial constraints.
