Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Plan, design, and implement secure, scalable APIs and backend services
- Write testable, modular, and extensible code following established standards
- Optimise application performance and support high-availability requirements
- Contribute to system design decisions and architectural discussions
- Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Support the migration of services from GCP to AWS
- Work with containerised applications using Kubernetes and Docker
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines
Collaboration & Quality
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver technical solutions
- Contribute to the development of team best practices and standards
- Incorporate automated testing into development workflow
- Mentor junior team members and share technical knowledge
Requirements
Essential
- 5+ years of software engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong experience with at least one JVM-based language (Kotlin or Java)
- Demonstrable experience building secure, scalable backend solutions
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, GCP or Azure acceptable)
- Proficiency with containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservice architecture
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL)
- Proficiency with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in teams
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Desired
- Experience with TypeScript/Node.js backend development
- Experience with PHP
- Familiarity with data engineering concepts: ETL processes, data pipelines, data modelling
- Experience with Databricks, PySpark, or Airflow
- Knowledge of GraphQL
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Experience mentoring engineers
