Senior Risk & Compliance Manager – UK & Europe

London | Part‑time | SMF16 & SMF17

  • Take ownership of Risk & Compliance across our UK & European businesses, setting the agenda for how we grow responsibly in these markets.

  • Located in Central London, a short walk from Blackfriars, you’ll join a close‑knit and supportive team of professionals who value integrity, collaboration and shared success - working together across Australia, Japan, the UK and Sweden to support a truly global investment business.

  • This is a part‑time role, and we’re genuinely flexible and open to exploring what the ideal balance looks like for you and the business. Please feel free to share your preference in your CV/application.

About the role

As Senior Risk & Compliance Manager, you’ll operate as the lead Risk & Compliance authority for the UK and Europe - holding key FCA responsibilities (SMF16 & SMF17) and ensuring our international operations meet the highest regulatory standards. You may also act as a Director for relevant UK and European entities, bringing strong governance, sound judgement and accountability to our local operations. You’ll provide trusted guidance across multiple jurisdictions, support affiliate activity, and influence how we grow safely and responsibly in new and existing markets.

You’ll also play an influential role in our London office, working closely with Heads of function, portfolio managers and investment teams to ensure compliance is embedded into day‑to‑day decision‑making and strategic discussions.

You’ll work across UK, EU and affiliate models, gaining rare breadth and variety while enjoying genuine autonomy as the senior compliance voice on the ground.

You’ll have the backing of our Sydney Risk team and help embed our group frameworks in a UK/EU context, contribute to Board‑level reporting, and play a central role in the ongoing development of our international operations.

What you’ll do

  • Lead compliance oversight across the UK & Europe as the senior compliance representative on the ground.

  • Hold SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and SMF17 (MLRO) from day one, maintaining constructive, professional engagement with the FCA.

  • Prepare clear, high‑quality Board and committee reporting, providing insight, recommendations and steady judgement — giving you real influence on strategic decisions and risk posture. Support cross‑border activity including Sweden, Madrid and affiliate relationships such as Ardea and Fulcrum, including providing compliance guidance and oversight where needed across key affiliate entities.

  • Localise and embed Challenger’s Risk & Compliance frameworks in a small, high‑performing satellite office.

  • Where required, act as a Director for specific UK/EU entities, ensuring effective governance and alignment with regulatory expectations.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be an experienced Risk & Compliance professional with a background in investment management, wealth management or funds management. Given the nature of the role, you’ll need strong working knowledge of UK regulation and FCA expectations, with the ability to hold SMF16 & SMF17 immediately.

As well as:

  • Confidence working with regulators — able to handle regulatory discussions clearly, professionally and without escalation.

  • Experience preparing Board‑level papers, with the ability to communicate complex issues in a straightforward, practical way.

  • Comfort operating independently day‑to‑day, with remote support from Sydney.

  • A calm, practical and collaborative approach, with good judgement and an ability to balance regulatory needs with business realities.

  • Sound governance capability, with the professionalism and independence required to hold directorships for relevant UK/EU entities.

  • Experience working across group structures, subsidiaries or affiliate models, with the ability to provide clear, pragmatic compliance oversight across multiple entities.

If you’re not sure you meet every requirement but believe you can add value in this role, we’d still encourage you to apply.

We welcome applicants returning to work or balancing commitments - we’re committed to flexible working that supports both performance and wellbeing.
