Job Description

Your Role

As a Senior QA Automation Engineer, reporting to the Head of Architecture and DevOps, you’ll help to lead our QA and testing community, define robust strategies, and drive automation excellence across our products. You’ll mentor others, champion best practices, and ensure our solutions meet the highest standards of quality and performance. The role is based in Leicester and is on a permanent basis.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the QA and testing community.
    • To formulate a robust and scalable testing strategy.
    • Provide guidance, support, knowledge and mentorship to more junior members.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, quality and technical excellence.
    • Advocate for best practices in test automation and test performance.
    • Ensure documentation is maintained, clear and comprehensive.
    • Drive continuous improvement within the community.
  • Maintain and further develop our automated end-to-end workflow tests.
    • Define and document test plans based on system use cases.
    • Configure tests to run against different customer configuration and environments.
    • Monitor test runs and raise any issues with the relevant development team(s).
    • Monitor system performance and highlight areas where improvements should be prioritised.
  • Liaise with development teams to ensure proper guidelines exist to ensure microservices are thoroughly and consistently tested at the API level.
  • Provide guidance and input into unit testing practices, to ensure governance across all product testing.
  • Engage with other roles such as Product Owners, Business Analysts and Architects to understand testing requirements needed to cover both functional product goals and non-functional technical strategy.
  • Ensure that customer facing test reports are produced for release candidates as a result of regression testing.
  • Collaborate with other TBA / Konecranes departments and third-party vendors to assist with both testing individual integrations and with testing the entire solution.
  • Periodically assist with penetration testing of our front-end applications.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, evaluate and recommend any emerging testing technologies that would be beneficial to the company.

Qualifications

Skills and Proficiencies

Candidates should have the following:

  • A strong background in software development and software testing­­­.
  • Significant experience with automated testing.
  • A critical, assertive, and independent attitude along with an analytical mindset.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • The confidence to challenge the norm, to advocate best practices and outcomes.
  • Experience of mentoring QA engineers and testers.
  • Knowledge of SAFe agile processes (or similar) and multi team coordination.
  • Excellent communication skills along with a strong level of English, both written and verbally.

Plus should ideally have experience in the following or similar technologies:

  • Message brokers (ActiveMQ, Kafka)
  • Messaging APIs and tools (Postman)
  • Docker containers (Docker Swarm, Docker Compose)
  • Languages and frameworks (C#, EF Core, Vue.js, TypeScript, NUnit, Playwright and Cypress)
  • Databases (Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, InfluxDB)
  • DevOps culture, CI/CD and release management (Microsoft Azure DevOps)
  • System monitoring tools (Grafana, Alloy, Loki, Tempo, Prometheus and Open Telemetry)
  • Test reporting tools
  • Documentation and diagramming tools (Confluence, Draw.IO)
  • Linux and command shells.

The following would also be beneficial:

  • An understanding of back-end microservice architecture including event driven systems, Domain Driven Design (DDD) and Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS).
  • Azure cloud services.
  • Exposure to supply chain/logistics systems and processes.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, personal development initiatives, or technical blogs.
