At Ameresco, we show the way by developing, constructing and operating tailored smart energy efficiency solutions, distributed energy resources, and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, decarbonization, and innovation. Our comprehensive portfolio is built to address the challenges of today and adapt the future, ensuring long-term sustainability and success for our customers.

Position Overview:

Ameresco UK is seeking a commercially astute and delivery-oriented Senior Project Procurement Manager to act as a high-impact senior individual contributor across strategic sourcing, supplier engagement, subcontractor commercial terms, and procurement execution for major bids and projects. The role will be central to improving supplier discipline, protecting margin, strengthening schedule confidence, and ensuring procurement is embedded early and effectively across the UK business.

This is a senior role for an experienced procurement professional who can operate confidently with commercial, technical, delivery, finance, legal, and project stakeholders, while also building strong external relationships with suppliers and subcontractors. The successful candidate will combine market awareness, commercial judgement, and practical execution to secure value, improve supplier performance, and reduce delivery risk across the portfolio.

The role does not require line-management accountability. It is intended as a senior individual contributor position that leads through expertise, influence, procurement process discipline, and execution across bids, frameworks, projects, and supply chain decisions. The Senior Procurement Manager will support both pre-contract and post-contract activity, helping bid teams shape realistic procurement assumptions and supporting delivery teams in securing back-to-back supplier and subcontractor arrangements that protect cost, programme, quality, and risk position.

The role will work closely with the Project Director to improve procurement governance, supplier performance, reporting, and escalation discipline. It will also support stronger sourcing strategies, better supplier visibility, improved market intelligence, and more disciplined procurement execution across the UK business.

The Senior Procurement Manager will support Ameresco UK in becoming an organisation that is operationally excellent, focused on growth and profitability, underpinned by a culture of commercial performance.

Core Responsibilities:

The role will focus on the following areas:

  • Lead sourcing, procurement, and supplier negotiation activity across priority bids, projects, and frameworks as a senior individual contributor

  • Improve supplier and subcontractor commercial terms, schedule confidence, and back-to-back contract discipline

  • Embed procurement earlier in the opportunity and project lifecycle so major pursuits are shaped with realistic supply chain inputs, pricing, and risk treatment

  • Strengthen procurement governance, reporting, and supplier performance management across the UK portfolio

  • Support commercial, technical, and delivery teams with market intelligence, procurement strategy, and cost competitiveness

  • Protect margin, cash, and delivery performance through disciplined procurement execution and supplier accountability

Key Responsibilities:

Sourcing and Procurement

  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and engage suppliers and subcontractors relevant to Ameresco UK’s energy, infrastructure, and decarbonisation portfolio

  • Lead the procurement process from market engagement and RFI, RFQ, or RFP through negotiation, recommendation, and contract award

  • Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions, and service commitments to deliver best value, delivery confidence, and quality

  • Support preparation and approval of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and procurement records in relevant systems

  • Support procurement strategy for major work packages on priority bids and live projects

  • Lead early supplier engagement on schedule-critical or commercially sensitive packages

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers

  • Monitor supplier performance, commercial compliance, and delivery against contractual terms and agreed standards

  • Support projects with supplier progress tracking, delivery reporting, and issue escalation

  • Coordinate supplier due diligence, audit support, and corrective actions where required

  • Support expediting and escalation on high-risk packages affecting cost or programme

Market and Industry Insight

  • Track market trends, regulatory developments, cost movements, and innovations relevant to Ameresco UK’s supply chain

  • Provide recommendations to internal stakeholders on emerging suppliers, technologies, and sourcing approaches

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative supply routes that strengthen competitiveness without increasing risk

  • Improve supplier visibility and intelligence across key categories, packages, and subcontract scopes

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with commercial, engineering, delivery, finance, legal, and operations teams to define procurement needs and support key decisions

  • Ensure procurement strategies support broader business objectives, including governance, ESG expectations, and net-zero delivery ambitions

  • Support bid teams on procurement assumptions, supplier engagement, and back-to-back commercial alignment

  • Support the Project Director and project teams with supplier escalation, package status visibility, and mitigation of supply chain risks affecting delivery milestones

  • Work with project and commercial teams to improve subcontractor onboarding, package alignment, and back-to-back obligations

Risk, Compliance, and Performance

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement regulations, delegated authorities, and industry standards

  • Assess procurement and supply chain risks and recommend mitigation actions

  • Develop and track procurement KPIs covering cost, schedule, supplier performance, and compliance

  • Generate and present reports on procurement activity, supplier performance, risks, and key actions to relevant stakeholders

  • Support stronger procurement governance, supplier accountability, and escalation discipline across bids and live projects

  • Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • Five to ten years of relevant procurement or supply chain experience

  • Experience using procurement portals or sourcing systems, with Ivalua preferred

  • Experience with D365 purchase requisition and purchase order preparation and approval preferred

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • Commercially astute, task driven, and comfortable operating across multiple locations and priorities

Personal Attributes:

The successful candidate will be an energetic, credible, and commercially sharp leader with the ability to move between strategy and execution. They will be customer focused, highly collaborative, and confident operating at both executive and operational levels.

They should demonstrate:

  • strong leadership presence and personal accountability

  • excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills

  • a pragmatic and disciplined approach to growth

  • confidence in challenging assumptions and driving clarity

  • resilience and pace in a dynamic commercial environment

  • a strong bias for action, delivery, and measurable results

  • commitment to teamwork and cross-functional alignment
