Job Description

Role Overview

The Senior Project Manager is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of Cloud and Infrastructure projects across Azure, traditional on‑premises, hybrid environments, and large-scale transformation programmes. Operating confidently in high‑ambiguity delivery environments, the role requires full ownership of project outcomes—commercially, operationally, and strategically.

This role provides senior leadership across complex multi‑workstream engagements, acts as the primary client interface, and ensures predictable, governance‑led delivery. The position contributes to overall delivery maturity, coaching Project Managers, uplifting capability, and aligning project execution with broader business objectives.

Scope & Accountability

  • Deliver multiple concurrent Cloud and Infrastructure projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for client stakeholders, ensuring transparency, trust, and delivery confidence.
  • Lead matrixed teams including engineers, architects, SMEs, partners, and offshore/nearshore teams.
  • Own financial performance including forecasting, cost control, commercial governance, billing integrity, and margin protection.
  • Ensure rigorous planning, documentation, RAID management, and transition to live service.
  • Act as a strategic leader influencing delivery standards, governance frameworks, and cross‑team alignment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Client & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Act as primary liaison between Telefónica Tech and client organisations.
  • Build trusted relationships at senior levels (CIO, CTO, IT Director).
  • Produce clear, accurate executive reporting covering timelines, finances, risks, and delivery health.
  • Lead Steering Committees, governance boards, and deep‑dive sessions.
  • Proactively manage expectations, ensuring issues are surfaced early with actionable mitigation plans.

2. Delivery & Governance Excellence

  • Lead hybrid, cloud, and on‑prem delivery programmes end‑to‑end.
  • Establish foundational governance: scope, schedule, financial baselines, documentation, and reporting cadence.
  • Drive disciplined RAID management, focusing on early risk identification and resolution.
  • Oversee integrated delivery planning including critical path analysis, dependencies, and resource strategies.
  • Own Project → Service transition, ensuring documentation, operational readiness, and handover into Managed Services.

3. Commercial & Financial Management

  • Own full portfolio budget performance and commercial outcomes.
  • Govern change control aligned to contractual terms, preventing scope erosion.
  • Produce accurate month‑end forecasts and revenue projections.
  • Identify commercial risks and implement recovery strategies.
  • Support bids, proposals, and presales activity by shaping delivery approaches, estimating effort, and assessing risk.

4. Strategic & Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership in ambiguous or complex environments, offering clarity where minimal precedent exists.
  • Mentor and coach Project Managers, uplifting the capability and maturity of the delivery practice.
  • Champion continuous improvement and consistent governance methodologies.
  • Influence cross-functional alignment between Delivery, Cloud Practice, Managed Services, and wider business units.
  • Foster a culture rooted in accountability, integrity, inclusiveness, and proactive problem‑solving.

Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering technology programmes within IT managed services or cloud/infrastructure environments.
  • Proven success managing complex, multi‑stream Cloud and Infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial management and financial accountability experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing senior customer stakeholders.
  • Professional qualifications such as PRINCE2, APM, MSP or equivalent.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, GCP, hybrid environments, and infrastructure modernisation.
  • ITIL awareness, especially around Service Transition (desirable).

Behavioural Expectations

  • Operates with high autonomy and ownership.
  • Structured, methodical and governance‑driven.
  • Strong executive‑level communication and presentation skills.
  • Solutions‑oriented, proactive, and able to navigate ambiguity.
  • Promotes a culture of excellence, trust, and continuous development.
  • Empowers teams while maintaining accountability for delivery outcomes.
