At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That’s why we’re looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

Cancer Research UK has a vision to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. However, to achieve our mission and grow our funding, we must build even greater momentum and urgency around our cause, and engage and inspire millions of people in deeper, more meaningful ways to join our mission. Therefore, we have created a long-term Engage Strategy and designed a bold transformation programme to better harness data and digital marketing technology to deliver more relevant, trusted, and frictionless experiences for our audiences (and in turn drive contribution growth).

The Analytics & Reporting team collaborate across the Marketing, Fundraising & Events (MFE) directorate to provide expert data analytics and insight that supports decision-making across Cancer Research UK’s 30+ marketing and fundraising products (e.g. Race 4 Life, Weekly Lottery, Legacy Giving, Regular Giving etc). As a Senior Project Manager, you will play an essential role in driving Engage transformation initiatives from within the Analytics & Reporting team, while matrix-reporting into the Engage Project Management Office.

In this role, you will manage a complex workload providing capability planning that balances and meets the needs of both business as usual (BAU) and transformation initiatives within the Analytics & Reporting team. In this role, no day will be the same; one day you’ll be setting up new ways of working and processes within Analytics & Performance (such as PowerBI), the next planning project roadmaps for MarTech, managing annual and quarterly reporting, or planning and rolling out training programmes.

If you have a project management background delivering transformation initiatives in large, complex organisations with exposure to working with Data & Analytics teams that use Power BI, we would love for you to join our mission.

What will I be doing?

  • Acting as the bridge between the Analytics & Reporting team and Engage Project Management office to project manage Engage Transformation initiatives within Analytics & Reporting.

  • Providing planning capability for the Analytics & Performance team with a focus on planning needs, capacity management, and prioritisation (this will have a 50:50 split focus across BAU and Engage Transformation initiatives within the team).

  • Reporting on team activity and progress against plan.

  • Setting up new ways of working and processes with the Analytics & Performance and Project Management Office teams, and key stakeholders.

  • Planning project roadmap (inc. with MarTech/ Marketing Tech discovery) and reporting on migration roadmap and rollout.

  • Recognising dependencies with other teams and risks/issues to the rollout of new ways of working. Before identifying mitigations and unblocking challenges to enable the team to focus on delivery.

  • Planning and rolling out an upskilling programme across the Analytics & Performance team to meet both business and transformation needs (this will include our approach to financial models and analysis).

  • Supporting the rollout of Gift Aid capability transformation in collaboration with the wider organisation.

  • Setting up ways of working with Power BI.

  • Managing annual and quarterly planning activity for Analytics & Performance with an emphasis on long-term planning.

  • Managing escalations appropriately to ensure decisions are made by the appropriate representatives based on evidence.

  • Providing administrative support as needed (including scheduling necessary meetings and workshops).

  • Supporting other initiatives across the Engage transformation programme, as required.

What are you looking for?

  • Project Management background (ideally has a project management qualification such as APM, Prince 2, Agile etc but we are open to candidates who are qualified by experience).

  • Successfully delivered transformation programmes and projects in large, complex organisations.

  • Has worked with Data & Analytics teams who use Power BI (this doesn’t need to be in a transformation setting but it is essential you understand how they work and their processes).

  • Set up ways of working with strong process design and implementation skills.

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, manage, and delegate multiple tasks and meet deadlines (including the workload of others).

  • Built collaborative stakeholder relationships across all levels (including Senior Leadership) with the ability to challenge and influence.

Our organisation values are designed to guide all that we do.

Bold: Act with ambition, courage and determination

Credible: Act with rigour and professionalism

Human: Act to have a positive impact on people

Together: Act inclusively and collaboratively

We’re looking for people who can believe in and embody these organisation values and can use them to drive forward progress against our mission to beat cancer.
