ABOUT SOTHEBY'S

Established in 1744, Sotheby’s is the world’s premier destination for art and luxury. Sotheby’s promotes access to and ownership of exceptional art and luxury objects through auctions and buy-now channels including private sales, e-commerce and retail. Our trusted global marketplace is supported by an industry-leading technology platform and a network of specialists spanning 40 countries and 70 categories which include Contemporary Art, Modern and Impressionist Art, Old Masters, Chinese Works of Art, Jewelry, Watches, Wine and Spirits, and Design, as well as collectible cars and real estate. Sotheby’s believes in the transformative power of art and culture and is committed to making our industries more inclusive, sustainable and collaborative.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to shape how we interact with clients and how we drive consignments across the Sotheby’s ecosystem. You’ll tackle ambiguous problems and use your analytical skills to build business cases and measure impact. This role requires data chops, financial acumen, and a desire to disrupt an old, slow industry with digital strategies that fit Sotheby’s reputation for white-glove service. You’ll work closely with senior leaders across product, finance, legal, marketing, sales, and client strategy teams to hone your vision. You’ll deliver on that vision across teams of researchers, designers, engineers and operations

The ideal candidate is analytical, resourceful, customer-focused and team oriented, with the ability to build trusted relationships. You should be a strong owner and have a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects in a fast-paced and matrixed business environment. This position involves regular interaction with senior leaders across the organization, and you’ll need to be comfortable communicating with executives while also working directly with various functional teams.

You’ve built products for thousands or millions of customers, balancing financial outcomes with customer outcomes. You’re hands-on, able to flip between executing as an individual contributor and leading work across teams of researchers, designers, engineers and operations. You’re interested in solving problems, running experiments and creating plans to implement change. You’re able to self-serve with data and can get the entire company behind you by telling stories with data to gain trust and create agreement. You are the voice of the customer, making sure that all members of the team understand the role the product and business has in people's lives.

You value the role that quality plays in the company's success and take pride in shipping products that support our performance, stability, design, and business quality goals. You invest in a culture that enables the product and technology teams to work as a single unit to build products that look and feel exceptional.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a deep understanding of Sotheby’s core business lines.
  • Develop business cases that align with our broader strategy, based on customer insights and market research.
  • Lead discovery efforts for new opportunities, with a structured approach to identifying problems and testing solutions with rapid experiments
  • Use data to make business decisions. Use SQL and Tableau, in addition to tracking tools like Amplitude, to create data-informed roadmaps with success metrics for your initiatives.
  • Prioritize features and capabilities based on desirability, viability and feasibility.
  • Manage the product lifecycle from initial idea to launch and post-launch, with feedback loops so that what we build shapes what we build next.
  • Lead working sessions with designers, engineers, and business stakeholders to make key decisions, uncover risks and resolve open questions.
  • Work with the design team to deliver products that reinforce our brand and positioning.
  • Partner with engineering and program to drive delivery in small iterative releases.
  • Ensure dependencies between teams are understood and managed.
  • Guide and contribute to a strong and scalable product culture. Coach and mentor PMs across the team, raising the bar on product thinking, communication, and customer focus.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years operating at a principal, group, or staff level
  • A strong portfolio of product work showing problem-first thinking and measurable impact
  • Experience mentoring or leading other PMs in methods for clear and actionable discovery and delivery
  • Direct experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Clear communication style with executives and peers
  • A bias toward action and ownership; comfort navigating ambiguity and bringing others along

PREFERRED

  • Experience managing CRM or client data initiatives.
  • Snowflake, Tableau, Amplitude, and Segment experience.
  • Experience in organizations transitioning from feature delivery to outcome-driven development
  • Background in service design or systems thinking
  • Passion for helping teams get better at what they do, and get clearer on how to work with other teams
  • Experience in the luxury or travel sector, especially with constructing bespoke experiences
