Genomics England
Senior Product Manager - 12 Month FTC (we have office locations in Cambridge, Leeds and London)
Genomics England is a global leader in enabling genomic medicine and research, focused on creating a world where everyone benefits from genomic healthcare. Building on the 100,000 Genomes Project, we support the NHS’s world-first national whole genome sequencing service and run the growing National Genomic Research Library, alongside delivering numerous major genomics initiatives. By connecting research and clinical care at national scale, we enable immediate healthcare benefits and advances for the future.
Our mission is to provide the evidence and digital systems so that by 2035 genomics could play a role in up to half of all healthcare interactions, whilst securing the UK’s position as the best place to discover, prove and benefit from genomic innovations.
We are accelerating our impact and working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
Behind the Healthcare and Research outcomes, Genomics England delivers through designing, developing and operating complex healthcare software systems.
We're on the cusp of big changes with the real prospect of genomics becoming the fabric of everyday healthcare through the lifetime - from birth to old age.
Job DescriptionWe’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to own and evolve a crucial set of data-focused, backend services and platform capabilities, which sit at the core of the Healthcare Genomics Service.
These are critical, production systems used by multiple teams across Genomics England. They’re built on modern cloud infrastructure, API-driven architectures, and shared platform services, and they underpin how genomic data is processed, accessed, and used at national scale
This is not just a feature delivery role; you will use your expertise and your experience to own complex, live systems, enabling the right technical decisions for the products, and shaping platforms that other teams rely on every day.
If you naturally think in systems, properly understand how platform decisions scale impact, and are comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership and ambiguity, this will likely resonate
What you’ll be doing:
- Own a set of shared data and platform products, responsible for their direction, performance, and long-term evolution.
- Define clear product strategy and outcomes - align to organisational priorities, set and own squad OKRs, and translate these into focused roadmaps and backlogs.
- Work closely with engineers and technical leads to shape scalable, API-first architectures that maximise reuse, reduce complexity, and enable teams to move faster.
- Make decisions about how your products evolve - balancing enhancements, scale, and stability alongside migration away from legacy components where appropriate.
- Managing products that are part of a regulated environment to meet compliance, audit, and assurance requirements.
- Use data and well-thought-through proxy metrics to measure impact, particularly where value is indirect or spans multiple teams.
- Collaborate across squads to shape shared capabilities, reduce duplication, and put in place platform guardrails that enable teams rather than constrain them.
- Manage stakeholders with clarity and confidence, being transparent on priorities, trade-offs, and risk, and stepping in to resolve issues quickly and decisively.
- Mentor and support other product managers and team members, fostering a culture of ownership, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Drive cross-team initiatives that improve platform health, developer experience, and operational efficiency.
What we’re looking for:
- You are a Senior Product Manager who is experienced and comfortable owning data-focused shared / platform products on which teams across the organisation are dependent.
- You understand how to manage technical platforms and shared systems as products, with a clear strategy and roadmap, a focus on user needs, and delivering measurable outcomes.
- You have confidence and experience in managing existing live systems and products (including managing them through the product lifecycle).
- You are comfortable working directly with engineers to understand and shape longer-term platform evolution.
While your qualifications are certainly important and provide a foundation, we are particularly interested in understanding the breadth and depth of your overall experience, as this gives us a clearer picture of what you can bring to the role.
