As a Senior Product Designer at Citymapper, you will collaborate with product managers and engineers to design and deliver user-friendly solutions. Responsibilities include analyzing user needs, defining product strategies, understanding technical constraints, and overseeing project lifecycles from inception to iteration.

At Citymapper (powered by Via), we’re on a mission to help make cities easier to navigate. Our app helps millions of people around the world make the best decision on how they want to travel. Whether it's on foot or by bicycle, above ground or underground, or a combination of modes, our real-time data ensures that users have the most accurate and up-to-date information available.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer who can think strategically AND design for implementation. You’ll be collaborating closely with some of the best product managers and engineers in the industry to deliver elegant solutions needed by humans all over the world.
Smarter mobility leads to better cities, making them less congested, more affordable, and environmentally sustainable. This is an opportunity to be part of a small, mission-driven team reinventing a category, building both consumer products and enterprise technology to improve mobility in cities around the world. We use what we design, every day. We move fast. We like green.

What You'll Do:

  • Collect and analyze user needs in multiple ways, e.g. user interviews, Zendesk, social media chatter, data points.
  • Define how products can support business needs.
  • Balance user needs and business needs.
  • Understand technical constraints and opportunities.
  • Work through the entire lifecycle of the project: at no point does the designer “hand over” to another team. We follow through delivery, QA, and iterate.
  • Shape, design, deliver, QA, and iterate on solutions with Product Managers and Engineers
  • Test and use the features you build.

Who You Are:

  • Strong background in Design, UX and Product.
  • 5+ years of experience in building products.
  • A deep understanding of our app and company offering; transportation experience is welcome to speed up the learning curve.
  • Experience in abstracting complexity behind simple messages and interfaces.
  • You thrive in complex environments and know how to prioritise features and tasks.
  • You work in tandem with engineers. You understand tech constraints and opportunities. You appreciate that engineers are designers in their own right.
  • You talk to users constantly.
  • You care.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Becoming part of a company that was awarded for its commitment to social good
  • Competitive compensation including stock options
  • A hybrid working model and a spacious office near Chancery Lane, where you can enjoy weekly team lunches
  • Comprehensive health scheme offered through AXA

Citymapper is an innovative journey planning and transportation technology company that has transformed the way that millions of users navigate their cities. Powered by real-time transport information and best-in-class technology, our app recommends routes across multiple modes of transport, including metros, buses, trams, bikes, scooters, and taxis so users find the most efficient, affordable, and convenient way to reach their destination. In March 2023, Citymapper was acquired by Via, the leader in TransitTech. The integration of Citymapper into Via’s software platform creates a unified solution for cities, transit agencies, and riders that encourages public transit usage and reduces the need for private vehicles.

Founded in 2012, Via pioneered the TransitTech category by using new technologies to develop public mobility systems — optimizing networks of buses, shuttles, wheelchair accessible vehicles, school buses, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles around the globe.

Building the world's most efficient, equitable, and sustainable transportation network for all passengers — including those with limited mobility, those without smartphones, and unbanked populations — Via works with its partners to lower the costs of public transit while providing transportation options that rival the convenience of a personal car while reducing environmental impact.

At the intersection of transportation and technology, Via is a visionary market leader that combines software innovation with sophisticated service design and operational expertise to fundamentally improve the way the world moves, providing technology in 650 communities and more than 35 countries and counting.

We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. All backgrounds, identities, and voices are welcomed and celebrated at Via.
