Principal Product Manager – Upstream

  • Location: London or Edinburgh
  • Hybrid: 2 days a week in office
  • Salary: £107K - £130K

About the Role:

At ClearScore we’re on a mission to help people around the world achieve greater financial wellbeing. As a Principal Product Manager in our Upstream innovation team, you'll help shape and execute our product vision, working to drive step-change innovation in the core ClearScore app proposition. Reporting into the Director of Product, this is a unique opportunity to have strategic impact without direct management responsibilities, ideal for those who love solving complex product challenges and mentoring others while staying hands-on. Candidates for this role can be based in either London or Edinburgh.

What you’ll do:

  • Take responsibility for strategic product innovation initiatives from inception, seeking to push the boundaries to understand what is possible, identifying the big opportunities to improve the ClearScore product experience and proving out their feasibility, viability and desirability.
  • Working with the Director of Product, contribute to the creation and evolution of the overall ClearScore app product vision, strategy and roadmap, all in service of our overall mission to help everyone make better financial decisions.
  • Navigate complex and ambiguous product problem spaces, using your deep knowledge of the market ecosystem we operate within alongside appropriate qualitative and quantitative approaches, to identify and pursue unique and innovative opportunities to help our users and partners.
  • Obsess over a clear, calm and beautiful product, understanding when to rely on product intuition to chart a route forward and how to crisply communicate that route to others.
  • Build and maintain relationships across the organisation, collaborating with peers across all disciplines to bring together diverse knowledge, skillsets and perspectives in support of the product vision.
  • Act as a mentor to others within the Product Management team, sharing your own experiences, knowledge and expertise to support both product initiatives and people’s career development.

Who you are:

  • You have a deep understanding of finance market dynamics and financial technology trends. Knowledge of credit or financial wellbeing spaces a bonus.
  • You know what good Product Management looks like. Although you can draw on multiple different frameworks and tools for a given problem, you’re also aware of how critical “soft skills” are to the role’s success.
  • You have highly developed product intuition and problem-solving skills, being able to balance speed and quality – when to go deep and considered and when to go fast and iterative.
  • You’re a servant leader who builds relationships to get the best out of each expert function and understand that building great products is a team sport.
  • You’re comfortable communicating and collaborating with people of all levels within an organisation and appreciate how critical this is to delivering successful product impact.
  • You have a real understanding of the importance of design, focus and clarity in the product’s experience and always seek to drive to elegant simplicity in product solutions.
  • You love supporting others in learning about how to be product managers, knowing when it is right to listen and encourage and when to work through challenges more practically.
