Our Technology team is growing, and we're hiring for a Senior Platform Engineer who can join our platform engineering collective. Join us to start going beyond comparison. 

Insight into the role 

Our market is competitive, and our customers deserve even more, so we’re constantly evolving. Recently we’ve launched an exciting new product strategy as the North star for the entire organisation. It means we’ve moved to a more platform centric approach, where everyone is more focused on the big leaps we can make to innovate in the market, and our technology and architecture is rapidly evolving as a result. We have big, interesting problems to solve on the journey and need the best talent in the industry to take us to that next level. 

Our platform engineers use their expertise in building and maintaining infrastructure and tooling to help enable our developers to create innovative products and services which are blazingly fast and reliable.  They want our developers to be able to deliver safely and securely and they work closely with them to build platform solutions to support this.  Our aim is to enable our product engineering teams to own the services they build. 

Our Tech 

  • Infrastructure: Hosted in AWS, defined as code using tools like Terraform and CDK 
  • Containerization: Applications run within Kubernetes with ArgoCD managing deployments 
  • Provisioning: We use AWS Control Tower to enable users to provision accounts to host their services, whilst building paved roads to help teams get their apps up and running quickly in a consistent manner 
  • Event-Driven: We share data through an event-driven system powered by MSK 
  • Observability: Datadog is used for comprehensive logging and monitoring 
  • Databases: We use a combination of MongoDB and AWS Relational Databases 
  • Automation and CICD: Deployments are highly automated using Jenkins pipelines and Github Actions workflows, enabling us to release to production multiple times a day 

Within 1 month, you’ll: 

  • Meet your teams, peers and key stakeholders and begin to build relationships. 
  • Dive into our technology by pairing and collaborating with engineers in your team. 
  • Learning about the systems and tooling in your team and the wider landscape. 
  • Contribute to the delivery of new services and functionality in your team. 
  • Learn how MONY Group operates, our principles, history and where we’re heading. 
  • Complete our onboarding, training sessions and all the usual gubbins. 

Longer term, you’ll: 

  • Work hands-on through all stages of delivery lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing, deployment and maintenance. 
  • Lead the delivery of features and functionality in your team. 
  • Facilitate collaboration across the team to analyse and break down complex problems. 
  • Provide input into the technical strategy for your team. 
  • Promote best practices and effective ways of working, such as pair and mob programming. 
  • Encourage security development practices by making sure initiatives are built with security in mind from the start. 
  • Be involved in incident investigation, resolution and post incident reviews, as well as on call / support rotas.  
  • Manage and contribute to maintenance and operational requirements, such as technical debt & maintaining sensible levels of documentation. 
  • Identify areas for improvement and proactively help drive these initiatives to benefit both the platform team and wider engineering teams 
  • With support from your Engineering Manager, identify and pursue opportunities to grow and develop your career. 

You should apply if: 

  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy practices like pair programming and mobbing.  
  • You take ownership of complex problems, break them down into actionable steps, propose and articulate solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • You write clean, well-structured and maintainable code whilst following best practices. 
  • You have hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, and tools such as Terraform or CDK to build reliable infrastructure as code 
  • You have experience with one or more programming languages used in the DevOps or Platform Engineering space, for example, Python, Java, Javascript, GoLang. 
  • You are familiar with a range of platform engineering practices, can quickly understand complex code and systems 
  • You are eager to continuously grow your skill set. 
  • You have experience configuring pipelines or workflows using tools like Jenkins or Github Actions 
  • You advocate for quality and follow good testing practices like Test Driven Development 
  • You have worked with databases like MongoDB, RDS, Aurora. 
  • You embrace agile development practices - you love shipping features quickly, delivering value and helping your team do the same. 
  • You have experience coaching and mentoring junior team members and helping them grow 
  • You seek opportunities to contribute to improvements and make things better.
