ABOUT THE TEAM:

The Energy Transition is having a massive impact on the economy. The Nephila Climate Team is focused on developing new risk transfer products, where the demand for innovation is outpacing traditional channels of financing and risk transfer. We are seeking curious individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit who can challenge the status quo, think outside the box and embrace rapid change. ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Senior Originator is the face of the business in energy marketplace.  They are expected to source risk transfer opportunities by both responding to inbound requests and engaging in deal sourcing from new business counterparts.  The role is expected to be an owner of the deal through its lifecycle.  This means that in addition to sourcing opportunities, the originator will be negotiating heads of agreement or term sheets, progressing documentation through execution (in conjunction with legal counsel and key internal partners), coordinating internal stakeholders and approvals, and generally being an owner of the deal post-execution.         

The role reports to the Head of Energy Products, a senior member of the team, who reports to the strategy’s CEO.  Candidates will have commercial origination and contracting experience in the energy markets gained negotiating renewables PPAs, energy management agreements, or structured commodities derivatives transactions.   Aside from competitive compensation, the Senior Originator will wake up each morning and know that they are personally making the transition to net-zero happen. 

In this role, you will:

• Source risk-taking opportunities consistent with the businesses mission and portfolio design targets and own the transaction for its lifecycle.
• Field inbound requests for proposals and source opportunities through existing firm relationships. Understand the counterparties needs and find a win-win commercial arrangement.  
• Drive the deal through the negotiation and documentation process. Utilize the businesses tools and partner with team members to refine pricing and optimize the structure to find a deal that works for both sides.
• Represent back to the business the state of the market including where various related transactions are trading as well as where concerns and future opportunities are emerging.
• Use your presence in the market and experience to play a critical role in business development. Find new opportunities to take risks, participate in understanding and pricing the risk, drive execution, and help grow new business lines.
• Be a leader in the business, influencing the businesses direction into new opportunities and being an active participant in building processes and tools to support those moves.
• Contribute to the spirit of innovation and collaboration that has made Nephila a leading-edge provider of solutions to novel problems emerging from the net zero transition.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM (Qualifications):

• You have Bachelor’s degree
• You have 5+ years (more preferred) real-world experience in electricity markets or commodity trading
  • Experience with complex negotiations of term energy transactions required  
  • Experience with wind, solar, and BESS is a plus
  • Experience with ISDA-based transactions is a plus
• You have ability to speak with knowledge and gravitas about risk taking and energy markets both internally and externally.
