Your new role

Are you a dedicated and vigilant individual with a passion for Networking? Are you looking for a role in a fast-paced environment where your network skills and commitment to maintaining a secure, stable and scalable environment are valued? This role is for you.

As a Senior Network Infrastructure Specialist at Global, you'll be a technical leader within our team, responsible for the design, implementation, and ultimate stability of our network infrastructure at locations worldwide. You'll work with a team of dedicated infrastructure professionals, leading the implementation of critical network projects and acting as a subject matter expert to ensure a stable, scalable, and secure environment for everyone.

Key Responsibilities

As a Network Infrastructure Specialist at Global, your responsibilities will encompass several key areas:

  • Network Architecture and Implementation (40%): You will take a lead role in the network team, where you will design, build, and evolve the network. You will be hands-on, leading the configuration and implementation of critical projects, acting as the primary technical resource with the support of the broader infrastructure teams.

  • Innovate with Leading Technology (20%): You will be at the forefront of network evolution, working with the latest technologies from our key vendors, including Juniper, Arista, and Cisco. Your expert knowledge of advanced networking concepts, such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and Multicast, will be essential as you architect and engineer the robust infrastructure that underpins all Global's services.

  • Support and Protect (20%): You will own the full lifecycle of our network services, from performance to security. This includes managing our firewall estate, acting as the final escalation point for complex incidents, and driving deep root cause analysis. You will be expected to mentor other team members and improve incident response procedures.

    • Incident Response: Escalation point for faults, providing detailed feedback during incidents, and mitigating attacks to protect our services.

    • Change Management: Managing changes in a structured manor and partaking in peer reviews and approvals.

    • Problem Management: Driving hands-on troubleshooting to find the root cause and diagnose issues for any incidents and ensuring clear communication is delivered to the business via post-incident reviews.

  • Collaboration and Leadership (20%): Your role is built on partnerships; you will work directly alongside software developers and broadcast engineers to lead the technical delivery of projects. This collaboration extends to providing expert-level support and architectural guidance.

What You’ll Love About This Role

  • Think Big: Your impact will directly underpin our national broadcast and advertising platforms along with our Global Player app.

  • Own It: End-to-end responsibility for the networks you design and build.

  • Keep It Simple: You will be encouraged to think creatively and implement streamlined, repeatable processes to solve complex problems.

  • Better Together: You will be part of a collaborative team and will build effective working relationships throughout the business.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you'll have:

  • Audited and Validated the Core Architecture: Completed a comprehensive review of the network topology and traffic flows, identifying and presenting key areas for strategic improvement in performance, security, and scalability.

  • Taken Ownership of Technical Standards: Mastered all network documentation and have begun to address gaps, establishing a new standard for quality and accuracy that other team members can follow.

  • Optimised Monitoring and Alerting: Mastered our full suite of monitoring tools and have already proposed and started implementing optimisations to improve proactive fault detection and improve alerting.

  • Become the Technical Lead with Vendors: Established yourself as the primary technical point of contact for key vendors like Check Point, Juniper and Arista, driving escalation calls and holding partners accountable for resolving complex issues.

  • Become a Trusted Advisor: Built influential relationships with the infrastructure team and key business stakeholders, moving from understanding challenges to actively architecting solutions to support their goals.

What You’ll Need

  • Expert Technical Skills: A deep, hands-on foundation in advanced networking (BGP, OSPF, MPLS). Significant experience with our key vendors (Juniper, Cisco, Arista). Professional-level certifications (CCNP, JNCIS/JNCIP) or equivalent experience are highly desirable.

  • Firewall Expertise: Extensive, hands-on experience in managing and designing solutions with Check Point firewalls. Professional-level certifications (CCSA, CCSE) or equivalent experience is highly desirable.

  • Project Leadership: Proven experience leading the technical implementation of network projects, from design and planning through to execution and handover.

  • Problem-Solving Authority: A methodical mindset for resolving the most complex and ambiguous network issues, acting as the go-to expert for the team.

  • Collaborative Leadership: The ability to communicate complex technical designs and strategies to all stakeholders and to mentor junior team members.
