The Type of Work
Nova Systems uses synthetic environments to support the customer to rapidly explore concepts within a synthetic environment through experimentation. This is done by leveraging commercial and military synthetic environments, modelling and data analytics tools to enable mission-level experimentation supporting future concepts and capability decisions. Working closely with domain experts you support our customers developing requirements, delivering concept capability demonstrations and assessing industry responses and delivery in our role providing Independent Technical Support.
The Role - Senior Modelling and Simulation Engineer
As one of our Senior Engineers, you will be responsible for delivering engineering coherence in support of Modelling and Simulation (M&S) projects that are currently being delivered by Nova. The work will include translating user requirements into engineering designs that can be delivered by software / hardware engineers. Then monitor the delivery of engineering aspects to check for quality and timeliness of delivery. The work may also require getting involved in the development of M&S products across the development lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide support to the development of M&S capabilities ensuring they are delivered on time and to quality.
- Comfortable working with software engineers and data analysts solving complex technical issues.
- Comfortable explaining M&S capabilities to non-technical audiences (including military operators).
- Proactive engagement across the team to resolve issues as they occur.
- Supporting other team members through the engineering lifecycle, including translation of user requirements.
- Leading the technical delivery of customer demonstrations / presentations.
Essential Requirements:
- Understanding of, and leading teams through the engineering lifecycle
- Knowledge of software development approaches
- Testing and acceptance of software/hardware
- Generating user stories for engineering delivery
- Use of engineering tools such as task management (i.e. Jira)
- Generation of minimum viable products / concept capability demonstrators
Desirable Requirements
- Defence Modelling & Simulation (M&S)
- Air and/or Maritime domain knowledge.
- Development of simulation systems and integration/federation.
- Rapid concepting and prototyping of M&S capabilities.
- Exposure to simulation integration, automation frameworks, or data-driven experimentation.
Security Requirements:
- UK National (No Dual Nationals) *
- Eligible for and able to maintain SC clearance.
- Willingness to pursue higher clearance if required by project needs.

Salary Range £65,000 to 80,000
We are hiring 2 Senior level Modelling and Simulation / Systems engineers - and are open to level of experience you bring; this will be reflected the salary we can offer and in line with our internal salary benchmarking.

Location and Ways of Working
The role supports hybrid working, with a mix of home, office and onsite work. The team comes together onsite to integrate and test when needed, with client/onsite travel expenses and accommodation covered where required. You can be based anywhere in the South of the UK, provided you are happy to travel for onsite collaboration. Travel to your contracted office (Stokenchurch or Bristol) for non-client work is at your own cost. Regular travel to Lincolnshire or Hampshire is likely, with occasional travel elsewhere in the UK. The expected pattern is around 2–3 days with clients, with the remaining time spent in Nova offices or working from home, agreed with you.
