In collaboration with local suppliers and teammates across the globe, our defence workforce of more than 2,100 people in the United Kingdom work together to solve current and emerging defence and security challenges jointly with the Ministry of Defence.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Manager to lead our Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) Programme Management Core Function.  This role oversees the Programme Management tools and processes utilised by BDUK Programmes ensuring strong integration with the Enterprise direction, drives Programme Management resourcing and development initiatives and has senior leadership responsibility for the BDUK Integrated Planning and Scheduling function. The role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and excellent communication skills. This is a full-time role based in Bristol, Gosport or Yeovil with hybrid working options.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: 

  • Develop and execute the Programme Management (PM) Core Priorities and Plan, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Drive engagement and decision-making through the facilitation of key PM forums and councils.
  • Determine and manage the PM Function's operational budget, including tracking costs, headcount and utilisation and approving financial reports.

People Management & Development:

  • Senior Manager for BDUK Integrated planning & Scheduling ensuring executable plans and schedules are developed and maintained.
  • Oversee the line management of various PM roles, ensuring effective resource allocation and team performance.
  • Lead initiatives for succession planning and skills analysis within the PM function, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Develop and monitor training plans, deliver training, track completion metrics, and maintain relationships with training teams to ensure effective PM training delivery.
  • Plan and manage the PM Graduate rotation programme, ensuring meaningful placements and regular feedback.
  • Offer guidance and support to the PMO and Risk, Issue and Opportunity Community of Practice, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Processes & Tools:

  • Manage the PM Process Council, ensuring effective process performance metrics, audit compliance, and continuous improvement through corrective actions.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance PM processes and maintain quality management systems, sharing best practices across the organisation.
  • Provide oversight for Programme Management Best Practice assessments and conduct independent reviews to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Administer and provide training on PM tools.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience in programme or project management, budget management, line management and team leadership.
  • Familiarity with Boeing PMBPs, project management methodologies and tools.
  • Experienced in instructing training, facilitation, coaching and mentoring.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ideally holds a recognised PM certification e.g. PMI PMP
