Your Opportunity

BDO Canada is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to join our National Assurance team. This is a new role and the successful candidate can be based in any of our Canadian office locations.  

As a Senior Manager, you will play a crucial role in developing guidance, tools, and training to empower our assurance professionals to deliver efficient, high-quality engagements that adhere to professional standards and firm policies. 

Key responsibilities: 

Technical Guidance & Methodology Development 

  • Develop and maintain internal and client-facing assurance publications, templates, and methodology guidance  
  • Update National manuals, tools, and policies to support effective and efficient engagement execution 
  • Translating regulatory and standard setting changes into practical resources  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Risk, Assurance) to ensure guidance and methodology reflects the broader regulatory landscape and client environment 
  • Incorporate evolving technologies and tools that enhance assurance quality and efficiency 

Training & Knowledge Sharing 

  • Design and deliver impactful training programs for partners and staff (live, virtual and on-demand) 
  • Develop FAQs, internal guides, and communications to support consistent and efficient application of standards 
  • Support the transition to new platforms and methodologies through training that embraces digital enablement and evolving assurance practices 

Technical Committees and Groups

  • Participate in standard setting and technical groups such as BDO Global committees and workgroups, CPA Canada technical committees

Technical Research & Consultation Support 

  • Research Canadian and international assurance standards to inform of updates 
  • Review consultations on assurance matters
  • Responding to questions from engagement teams

Quality & Compliance Support 

  • Contribute to firm-wide quality initiatives including CSQM implementation, and assurance quality enhancements
  • Review assurance engagement work related to Technology Risk Assurance and coach team members on proper procedures and documentation 
  • Manage larger, more complicated engagements
  • Respond to regulatory findings and requests

Tool & Platform Enablement 

  • Maintain and enhance assurance templates and tools to align with standards and firm practices 
  • Champion the integration of innovative assurance technologies including Audit Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Work closely with senior leaders, partners and staff to align deliverables and timelines 
  • Engage with Standard-setting bodies in outreach initiatives and activities 
  • Prepare presentations and communications for internal and external clients
  • Assist in the proposals and business development

Your experience and education 

  • You are a designated CPA (or hold an equivalent international designation) with strong technical knowledge in assurance and related services
  • You possess your CISA designation
  • You bring 10+ years of progressive experience in assurance
  • You have strong Technical Expertise including a deep understanding of IS audit, Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS), PCAOB, ISA, firm audit methodology, and emerging IT risks
  • You have an Audit Quality Orientation, a strong track record of quality reviews, technical standard implementation, and regulatory compliance
  • You have leadership skills including the ability to lead technical teams, influence partners, and manage cross-functional projects
  • You have communication & training skills including distilling technical concepts into clear guidance and leading training sessions
  • You possess strategic awareness such as understanding of upcoming industry and regulatory trends (cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud, AI risks, CAS 500)
  • You are practical, possessing appropriate judgement to determine when strict adherence to the letter of the standards is appropriate or not
  • You are comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, and handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • You are adaptable and forward-thinking, with a demonstrated ability to embrace change and leverage technology to improve assurance execution and training delivery 
  • The ability to read/write/speak French would be considered a strong asset

The expected range of compensation for this role is $109,000 to $159,000 annually.
