Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Internal Audit Senior Manager to report directly to the Global Head of Internal Audit. This critical role ensures the independent and objective assurance of Checkout.com’s governance, risk management, and control environment.
Based in the United Kingdom, the role will be an important part of the Internal Audit team, working to deliver audits on various business areas, including Treasury, Finance, Operations and Compliance. The ideal candidate will be a confident, experienced audit individual with strong interpersonal and organisational skills, and one who is able to demonstrate the ability to effectively plan for and deliver the audit plan in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the delivery of high-quality, risk-based audits across the Internal Audit portfolio, managing all phases from planning and scoping through to control assessment, issue finalization, and report issuance.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive, risk-based annual internal audit plan, covering critical areas such as treasury, finance, compliance, and operations.
- Periodically evaluate and enhance the audit methodology and tools, ensuring strict adherence to industry best practices (including IIA standards), applicable regulations, and Checkout.com IA methodologies. Supports Quality Assurance processes in preparation of External Quality Review.
- Lead the continuous monitoring and updating of assigned risk assessments within the Continuous Risk Assessment framework to ensure timely identification of changes in risk profiles and their integration into the audit plan.
- Effectively communicate key audit findings and identified risk exposures to senior leadership, the Audit Committee, and Risk Committee(s).
- Manage relationships with senior management, provide expert advice, and participate in cross-governance activities. Act as a subject matter expert and a high-performing team player, leading others in creating accurate and high-standard work documents.
- Proactively monitor and interpret business, regulatory, and financial developments, internal policies, and related risks to ensure audit work remains relevant, timely, and valuable.
- Serve as an expert resource, lead others in creating and maintaining accurate and clear work documents, completing tasks on time and at high-standard.
Qualifications
- A university degree and a minimum of 10 years of audit experience, preferably at a regulated financial institution, payments institution, or other Fintech.
- Subject matter expertise and proven experience auditing operational, finance, treasury, and compliance (AML/CFT) processes, ideally within the payments or broader financial services sector.
- Professional qualifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), is essential for the role.
- Strong communication skills and stakeholder management both externally with regulators, schemes, and internally with the ability to build cross-functional relationships and work collaboratively.
- Proven track record in managing, leading, and delivering high-quality audits, especially in agile, fast-paced environments with a focus on execution.
- Analytical and risk-focused mindset, with a good understanding of data analytics and its practical application in auditing.
- Highly reliable when working independently, possessing sound judgment to handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines, and a clear understanding of when to escalate issues.
- Experience in people management and team leadership is highly desirable.
