Apollo (apollounderwriting.com)
Senior Manager, Capital & Portfolio Management
Who we are
Apollo is a specialised, independent (re)insurer operating at Lloyd’s, established in 2009 with a clear ambition: to deliver high-quality underwriting, service and partnerships in a market that values expertise and trust.
The name Apollo reflects our origins. Inspired by founding investor Neil Armstrong — the first person to walk on the moon — the business was built with the same pioneering mindset. Alongside Jim Hays, Neil saw an opportunity to create a different kind of Lloyd’s platform: focused, agile and built around people.
Since launch, Apollo has evolved into a diversified insurance group. Today, our offering spans traditional and specialty lines through Apollo 1969, innovative sharing-economy solutions via ibott 1971, and managing agency services for Platform Partner Syndicates at Lloyd’s.
With a global team of more than 300 professionals, we continue to grow with purpose, combining underwriting excellence, innovation and collaboration to support our mission of enabling a more resilient and sustainable world.
“We attract and retain diverse talent by creating an inclusive environment where people are empowered to grow, succeed and do their best work. By fostering excellence and forward-thinking, we aim to enable a resilient and sustainable world.” David Ibeson, Group CEO
Your Role:
Apollo is hiring a Senior Manager to lead Capital and Portfolio Management activity for our Platform Partner Syndicates (PPS). Reporting to the Group Head of Capital & Portfolio Management, you will take ownership of capital-setting and portfolio analytics for several Partner Syndicates; ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strong alignment with business plans.
You will play a central role in helping platform partners secure both initial and ongoing Lloyd’s approvals. The role blends technical leadership with strategic influence; working closely with underwriting, pricing, exposure management, finance, risk, and external stakeholders.
What You Will Do:
- Lead capital and portfolio management activity for assigned Partner Syndicates; setting and reviewing business plan components such as loss ratios, inflation assumptions, and risk splits.
- Work with Apollo’s pricing team on technical premium and price adequacy assessments, and embed capital and actuarial considerations into underwriting, exposure management, and reinsurance decisions.
- Lead capital-setting processes; review and challenge Lloyd’s Standard Models and internal model outputs, and parameterise or review bespoke model elements.
- Deliver regulatory submissions including capital requirements, business plans, Standard Formula and catastrophe returns; coordinate IMAP activity for new syndicates and maintain policies and documentation for Partner Syndicates.
- Engage proactively with internal teams, external partners, and Lloyd’s regulators; respond promptly to feedback and contribute to relevant committees and working groups.
- Assess new business opportunities with a focus on profitability and capital efficiency, stay informed on industry developments to support process improvement, and mentor junior team members while representing Apollo externally.
What We Are Looking For:
- Strong capital knowledge with familiarity of Lloyd’s market structure, classes of business, capital requirements, and ideally the Lloyd’s Standard Model.
- Ability to embed capital considerations into strategic decisions; strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex challenges and develop practical, creative solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence working across underwriting, finance, exposure management, risk, platform partners, and regulators.
- Clear and effective communication skills for diverse audiences including C-suite and regulatory committees; strong presentation capability.
- Adaptable, organised, proactive, and comfortable balancing short-term priorities with long-term objectives.
- FIA qualification.
What you’ll get in return
We offer a competitive and thoughtfully designed reward package that reflects the value of our people. This includes a fair and attractive salary, discretionary bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package - including 31 days’ annual leave, a non-contributory pension and private medical insurance.
