This newly created role sits within the Innovation & Commercial Education team, who are at the heart of Lloyd’s ambition to be the pre-eminent global Marketplace for risk. This integrated function brings together:
Lloyd’s Lab: Europe’s leading insurance innovation hub, delivering structured programmes that help market participants transform emerging risks into commercial opportunities.
Lloyd’s Academy: A global education platform offering in-person and digital learning experiences that build market capability and deepen client understanding of the Lloyd’s platform.
This is a pivotal new role designed to unlock the full commercial and strategic potential of Lloyd’s two alumni communities:
Lloyd’s Lab Alumni: more than 150 global tech, insurtech, startup and scaleup companies, this number is growing year on year
Lloyd’s Academy Alumni: brokers and risk managers graduating from Lloyd’s in person programmes, now located‑ across all major (re)insurance hubs
Together, these alumni represent a significantly under‑leveraged global asset for Lloyd’s. This role will design and bring to life a refreshed, market focused‑ alumni strategy that deepens their engagement with the Lloyd’s market, strengthens Lloyd’s global presence, and drives measurable commercial and reputational impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Insight
Conduct a full discovery process into the needs, expectations and ambitions of Lab and Academy alumni communities.
Benchmark global best practice in ecosystem, alumni and market development models.
Develop a unified alumni engagement strategy aligned to Lloyd’s market development objectives.
Gather and share meaningful alumni insights, stories and case studies with the wider market, feeding into our comms strategy to help demonstrate impact, spark interest and showcase the value of the Lab and Academy alumni communities.
Segment alumni groups based on their expected value to the Lloyd’s market (e.g., Lab alumni, signature Academy programmes, bootcamp participants, buyer programmes), and tailor engagement levels and strategies accordingly.
Market Development & Commercial Impact
Create structured pathways for brokers, underwriters and alumni (both communities) to connect, collaborate and generate commercial outcomes.
Design and implement initiatives that enhance market health, innovation adoption, and premium flows.
Work closely with global Lloyd’s offices (Americas, Singapore, LIC Europe) to ensure alumni engagement supports local growth strategies.
Partner with managing agents, brokers and market participants to uncover opportunities for alumni solutions and talent.
Programme Design & Delivery
Build and deliver alumni programmes from scratch; scalable, repeatable, and tailored to global needs.
Enhance existing offers (e.g. Lab building access, introductions, conferences, newsletters) and evolve them into high impact‑ commercial initiatives.
Drive proactive engagement; events, convenings, themed market challenges, curated introductions, and capability building‑ for alumni.
Stakeholder Management
· Act as a trusted connector between alumni (Lab + Academy), brokers and underwriters, global Lloyd’s teams, and internal Lab & Academy colleagues.
· Build a genuine understanding of the needs and expectations of each stakeholder group, ensuring that any introductions or engagements deliver mutual value rather than “performance‑style” interactions.
· Facilitate structured, purposeful access for global colleagues so they can leverage alumni effectively for market development and create meaningful commercial outcomes.
· Work closely with the Lloyd’s Brand & Comms team to amplify alumni stories, impact and visibility externally in support of the overall strategy.
Measurement & Reporting
· Co‑design KPIs as part of the strategy development process.
· Implement robust tracking mechanisms (qualitative + quantitative) to demonstrate market impact.
· Build narratives, case studies and performance stories that showcase alumni contributions to the Lloyd’s market.
The aim is that within 12 months, the role will have:
Built a clear, insight driven strategy for both alumni communities (Lab + Academy) from the ground up.
Shifted the organisation from reactive to proactive alumni engagement, with structured pathways for commercial collaboration.
Delivered strategic programmes that enhance market health e.g., improved adoption of innovative solutions, increased placement, stronger broker/underwriter collaboration.
Created measurable commercial impact, such as:
new commercial relationships facilitated
increased adoption of Lab alumni technologies and solutions
new premium placed via Academy alumni relationships
Established a coherent global operating model, supporting colleagues in the Americas, Singapore and Europe to access, connect with and deploy alumni effectively.
Developed both quantitative KPIs (market adoption, premium flows, commercial relationships, ecosystem engagement) and qualitative storytelling (case studies, reputational successes).
Built credibility and momentum with brokers, underwriters, alumni founders and Lloyd’s internal teams.
Develop a simple cost–value view of alumni segments to guide resource allocation and focus for 2027 planning.
This role requires someone who is curious, commercially minded, and confident building something from the ground up, blending strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery, driving momentum, and navigating a matrixed organisation with ease. It is essential that you have a strong understanding of the Lloyd’s market with experience in broking, underwriting, market development or an innovation environment where you have designed, built and delivered engagement programmes, stakeholder strategies or market facing initiatives.
