Here you’ll be welcomed. We champion diversity and we understand the importance of our people representing the communities and customers we serve. You’ll find an inclusive environment where you can be yourself and where everyone is driven by the same purpose – helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world.

We make health happen

As a senior lawyer in the Bupa UK Insurance Legal team, you will be responsible for the provision of legal advice and the management of legal risk to underpin delivery of the UK strategy and Bupa's purpose in accordance with our values. You will provide legal support to the commercial sales, product and other teams as required, taking a strong leadership role in managing legal and regulatory risk across these areas.

You’ll help us make health happen through:

  • Acting as a business partner to key stakeholders, including the strategic partnerships, commercial sales and product teams, to achieve commercial outcomes aligned with Bupa's strategy and risk appetite.
  • Providing expert legal and commercial support to the UK Insurance Business to help it achieve its strategic goals, including digital initiatives, new product launches and regulatory compliance projects.
  • Working closely with the UK Risk and Compliance teams to develop and embed legal and regulatory frameworks, policies and processes.
  • Providing an escalation point for complex technical queries, ensuring their effective, timely and commercially sound resolution.
  • Drafting and negotiating different types of (often innovative) insurance distribution agreements with brokers and other intermediaries and third-party distributors, including affinity partners.
  • Advising on product design, drafting and governance, including for new business lines.
  • Dealing with a wide range of "business as usual" requests.

Key Skills needed for this role:

  • A qualified lawyer who can demonstrate substantial post-qualification experience and have exceptional commercial awareness.
  • Have in depth experience of working in a regulated Financial Services environment and strong familiarity with the regulatory landscape of insurance and insurance distribution and the FCA Handbook.
  • Build credibility with business function stakeholders, influence outcomes and provide practical and pragmatic alternative solutions.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills with a high attention to detail and bring critical thinking and excellent analytical skills to legal problems.
  • Committed to excellence. You have a proven track record of demonstrating proactive ownership of legal risk management, causing continuous improvement and adding value with the ability to manage complex, strategically important, high value and contentious negotiations.
  • Good judgment and discretion and handle sensitive matters appropriately. You achieve results by drawing on a variety of experience to anticipate actions and needs and plan around them. You leverage different viewpoints and insights and have a demonstrated ability to deal with conflict and drive for results.
