The Senior Legal Counsel will draft and negotiate commercial contracts, provide legal advice, supervise junior team members, and improve efficiencies in a fast-paced legal environment.

10 months FTC plus option for an additional 2 months
We are looking for a confident and experienced commercial / technology lawyer to join our Legal Regulatory and Compliance team on a fixed term maternity cover contract to advise on a varied and interesting mix of commercial contracts, technology, intellectual property and data protection across all group businesses.

Key responsibilities
Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including:
- Data licences with mortgage lenders
- Services agreements with customers and suppliers
- Product development agreements
- Outsourcing agreements
- Providing general legal advice and support to our various business divisions on day-to-day commercial and legal issues including company secretarial duties
- Proactively working on ways to improve efficiencies for the legal and compliance team including developing standard documents and playbooks
- Liaising with our investor representatives
- Supporting the General Counsel in instructing and managing external legal counsel
- Managing workloads and priorities within the legal team, and supervising junior members of the team
Essential skills
- Results driven; having a proactive, goal-orientated and commercial approach to decision making
- Experience obtained in a top-tier firm or in-house team
- Qualified to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales
- Proven technical ability to draft complex commercial agreements to tight time-scales
- Data protection experience a plus but not essential
- Company secretarial experience a plus but not essential
- Excellent communication skills - able to deliver legal advice in a clear, concise and appropriate style
- Ability to work autonomously with all levels of the business
- Meticulous attention to detail, combined with a commercial awareness and common sense
- Ability to grasp new legal concepts quickly
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
- Ability to adapt to change and to work in a fast-paced commercial environment
- Proven ability to supervise legal trainees and junior lawyers
