Senior IT Engineer

Hybrid in London, United Kingdom

We’re looking for a Senior IT Engineer.

This role offers a rare opportunity to focus on proactive strategy, not reactive support. You will focus on high-impact project work that addresses the strategic challenges of a fast-growing business. You will enhance our infrastructure, security, and automation, designing and building reliable systems that scale with us.

The company

Small businesses move fast. Opportunities often don’t wait, and cash flow pressures can appear overnight. To keep going, and growing, SMEs need finance that’s as flexible and responsive as they are.

That's why we built iwoca. Our smart technology, data science and five-star customer service ensures business owners can act with the speed, confidence and control they need, exactly when it's needed.

We’ve already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding. Our passionate team is driven to help even more SMEs succeed, through access to better finance and other services that make running a business easier. Our ultimate mission is to support one million SMEs in their defining moments, creating lasting impact for the communities and economies they drive.

The team

The IT team supports more than 650 staff members between four offices in the UK and Germany. We partner with the wider business to provide technical solutions that help iwoca achieve its goals. To support this, team members continually develop expertise in key areas, including networking, security, and cloud-based solutions.

Team members work from the London office 2-3 times a week to provide continuous in-person support, and we meet regularly to catch up on work and organise priorities. Every quarter, the team socially catch up with a social/fun event.

The role

This is a senior and technical role that's all about proactive improvement, not reactive ticket-solving. It's an opportunity for an experienced IT Engineer to step away from the day-to-day support queue and focus on higher impact projects to enable company growth.

You will enhance iwoca’s infrastructure, security, and automation. You will tackle complex technical challenges, evaluate feature requests from across the company, and enjoy the freedom to design and deploy reliable, scalable IT systems. Your work will also empower our dedicated IT support team to provide the kind of assistance our users want to receive.

System ownership and project delivery

  • Lead and contribute to IT projects from conception to completion, working with stakeholders across the business to deliver robust and scalable solutions.

  • Define, enforce, implement, and report on security standards across all end-user devices (Windows, macOS, Linux) and our SaaS portfolio.

  • Ensure robust monitoring, logging, and reporting are in place for all critical IT infrastructure and cloud assets.

Process innovation and automation

  • Identify and automate repetitive manual tasks within IT operations using code, APIs, and scripting to reduce human error and improve efficiency.

  • Actively research, propose, and implement new technologies and processes that will elevate the capabilities and maturity of our IT function.

  • Create and maintain high-quality documentation for all adopted technologies and processes, ensuring knowledge is shared effectively within the team.

The requirements

Essential:

  • End-user computing: Strong experience managing and securing diverse endpoint environments (Windows, macOS, and Linux).

  • Networking: A solid background in networking principles and hands-on experience with modern WAN, Remote access, and Wi-Fi solutions.

  • Security and observability: Practical experience with security and monitoring technologies such as osquery, SNMP, or other log monitoring solutions.

  • Automation: Proven ability to automate tasks using scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash, exposure to automation and orchestration platforms.

  • DevOps tools and methodologies: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and version control (Git).

Bonus:

  • Cloud experience: Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS.

  • Governance standards: Familiarity with standards such as ISO27001, Cyber Essentials, and the NIST Cybersecurity framework.

The salary

We expect to pay from £55,000–£75,000 for this role. But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.

The culture

At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the professional development of our team members. We value thought and skill diversity, and encourage you to explore new areas of interest to help us innovate and improve our products and services.

The offices

We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a great place to work:

  • Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks.

  • Events and clubs, like bingo, comedy nights, football, etc.

The benefits

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Medical insurance from Vitality, including discounted gym membership.

  • A private GP service (separate from Vitality) for you, your partner, and your dependents.

  • 25 days’ holiday per year, an extra day off for your birthday, the option to buy or sell an additional five days of annual leave, and unlimited unpaid leave.

  • A one-month, fully paid sabbatical after four years.

  • Instant access to external counselling and therapy sessions for team members that need emotional or mental health support.

  • 3% Pension contributions on total earnings.

  • An employee equity incentive scheme.

  • Generous parental leave and a nursery tax benefit scheme to help you save money.

  • Electric car scheme and cycle to work scheme.

  • Two company retreats a year: we’ve been to France, Italy, Spain, and further afield.

And to make sure we all keep learning, we offer:

  • A learning and development budget for everyone.

  • Company-wide talks with internal and external speakers.

  • Access to learning platforms like Treehouse.
