About your role:
As a Senior HSE Specialist – Investigation & Learning, you will lead the organisation’s most significant safety investigations, uncovering root causes and driving meaningful learning across the business. Your work will shape how Centrica understands risk, responds to incidents, and continually strengthens its safety culture. By systematically reviewing safety processes and championing proactive risk management, you will play a central role in ensuring compliance, improving performance, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead and manage safety investigations, ensuring thorough, timely analysis of incidents.

  • Identify root causes and systemic issues contributing to safety events.

  • Work with the Data & Reporting Analyst to analyse HSE data, identify trends, risks, and performance themes.

  • Develop and implement effective corrective and preventive actions based on investigation outcomes.

  • Partner with business unit leaders and HSE teams to strengthen safety learning and continuous improvement.

  • Prepare clear, detailed investigation reports and present findings to senior management.

  • Liaise with external agencies and regulatory bodies when required.

  • Deliver training and workshops on root cause analysis, problem‑solving, and safety improvement techniques.

  • Monitor safety performance metrics to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.

  • Prepare and review company procedures as needed.

  • Lead regular event review panels and draw out underlying causes.

  • Develop effective methods to cascade investigation findings across all areas of Centrica.

Here's what we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with regulatory bodies such as the HSE, and familiarity with COMAH and Offshore Safety Case requirements.

  • Knowledge of gas, electrical, road, and vehicle safety.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA) and training in root cause analysis methodologies.

  • Proven experience in safety management, including conducting investigations and applying structured problem‑solving techniques.

  • Understanding of safety management systems, continuous improvement processes, and tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, and other RCA methods.

  • Awareness of Six Sigma or Lean principles; Green Belt certification is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and the ability to develop effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and persuasively.

  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
