We’re Civica and we make software that helps deliver critical services for citizens all around the world. From local to state government, to education, to health and care, over 5,000 public bodies across the globe use our software to help provide critical services to over 100 million citizens.

Our aspiration is to be a GovTech champion everywhere we work around the globe, supporting the needs of citizens and those that serve them every day. Building on 21 years of continuous growth and success, we're at a pivotal point on our journey to realise that aspiration.

Why you will love this opportunity as FinOps Engineer at Civica

Civica’s new FinOps Engineering Team will play a key role in helping the company make smarter, data-driven use of its cloud investment across Azure and AWS. Operating within the Platform Engineering organisation, this team will design and build tools, automation, and insights that enable engineering teams to understand, attribute, and optimise their cloud spend without compromising on performance or agility.

What you will do to be successful in this role:

Key responsibilities

  • Design and build tooling and automation to collect, analyse, and visualise cloud cost and usage data across Azure and AWS.
  • Collaborate with platform and product engineering teams to identify cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain tagging, cost-allocation, and reporting standards that ensure accurate attribution of cloud spend across teams and services.
  • Implement alerts, dashboards, and recommendations to proactively surface inefficiencies, underutilised resources, and rightsizing opportunities.
  • Partner with Finance and Cloud Operations to translate technical usage data into actionable financial insights and forecasts.
  • Promote FinOps best practices across Civica by contributing to documentation, internal tooling, and engineering education on cloud cost efficiency.

Requirements
  • Analytical thinking: able to interpret complex cost and usage data to uncover trends, anomalies, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Problem solving: skilled at diagnosing inefficiencies and developing creative, automated solutions to reduce waste and improve visibility.
  • Collaboration: effective at working across engineering, finance, and operations teams to align technical and business objectives.
  • Technical aptitude: proficient in cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS), scripting or automation (e.g. Python, Terraform), and data analysis tools.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: driven to refine processes, share knowledge, and evolve FinOps capabilities as Civica’s cloud footprint evolves.
  • Experience with cloud cost management platforms such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or third-party tools.
  • Familiarity with data engineering or analytics frameworks, e.g. building data pipelines or visualisations using SQL, Power BI, or Grafana.
  • Knowledge of software delivery economics and capacity planning, understanding how architecture and deployment choices impact long-term cloud spend.
  • Familiarity with the FinOps Foundation, including its missions and outcomes.
  • Ideally, 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or site reliability engineering, with at least 2 years focused on cost optimisation, FinOps, or cloud governance.
