An opportunity to become a key member of Starr’s UK & Europe finance team in a new role as Senior Financial Analyst. This role will support the Deputy Finance Director - UK & Europe and the Finance Director – UK & Europe

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead financial analysis in support of the Deputy Finance Director - UK & Europe in both Finance matters (operational and financial) as well as on Strategic projects;
  • To establish a sub-function responsible for financial planning and analysis of operating expenses and IT investment spend;
  • Design and produce reporting to support the analysis and forecasting of financial performance, operating expenses, operational efficiency and cash flow analysis;
  • Develop financial and scenario analyses models to support decision-making, cost/benefit and business case analysis;
  • Assist in providing support to process improvement and control solution efforts both within the Finance function and in other areas of the business, as required; and
  • To liaise with stakeholders across the business at all levels, as required.

Experience

  • 5 years + relevant experience at manager level;
  • Open to a variety of backgrounds including Finance, Actuarial or Consultancy roles. This person should be looking for exposure to a wide range of stakeholders and functions, with the opportunity to showcase analytical skills in a fast paced-environment;
  • Past managerial or supervisory role including responsibility for reviewing outputs and staff performance;
  • First class skill set in data consumption and analysis, analytics and producing management information; and
  • Strong understanding of the non-life Insurance market, including Lloyd’s and the London Market.

Skills

  • Ambitious self-starter with the confidence to define a new role, supporting a range of business objectives;
  • Capable of managing competing deadlines to execute several projects in parallel and deliver on timelines;
  • Experience of business partnering with the ability to provide ongoing challenge and process improvement;
  • Ability to think strategically and provide insights and recommendations;
  • Advanced numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail;
  • Excellent collaboration skills, and confidence communicating with senior stakeholders;
  • Negotiation, judgment and decision making ability; and
  • Professional business writing and presentation skills.

Systems & IT

  • Advanced Excel and Powerpoint skills;
  • Power BI or similar data analytics software preferred;
  • Experience with Anaplan or other planning tools; and
  • Passion for data: analysing data, improving data, presenting data.

Qualifications

  • Degree educated or equivalent; and
  • Fully qualified in an Accounting, Actuarial or other financial qualification.
