Job DescriptionThe Senior Finance Manager role is key within the operational accounting and finance organisation and will work side by side with the Business Line Finance Director and Business Unit Leadership. As part of a dynamic team, you will be responsible for all elements of financial performance for a business area within the UK & Ireland, with business partnering being at the heart of everything you do. This role is key to the preparation of complete, timely, and accurate financial accounting & reports in compliance with relevant GAAP (US/UK/IFRS), regulatory practices, and company policies and procedures, whilst becoming a trusted advisor to the business and being integral to the performance of the business unit and the achievement of the financial plan.
Responsibilities:
Line management of Project Finance Partner(s)
Coach and mentor a team of project accountants
Partner with the Business Unit leadership team in all aspects of finance management, reporting, planning & forecasting
Attend monthly Business Unit leadership meetings to present financial results and collaborate with Business Unit leadership on actions to achieve the financial plan and identify wider finance support requirements
Review bid submissions up to the financial threshold as defined by Delegations of Authority matrix, including but not limited to pricing, working capital, and risk/contingency assessments
Oversee Business Unit project portfolio to ensure accurate submission of project budgets and revenue recognition
Attend project reviews and ensure timely and accurate compliance with SOX project review process
Ensure accurate reporting of data, finance process efficiency, and playa key role in driving business performance through weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual finance activities
Drive prompt billing and collecting of cash across all projects through monthly WIP and AR review calls
Attend monthly operational review meetings with business unit performance managers to assess risk, opportunity, and validate Business Unit risk & opportunities register
Act as lead contact point with wider finance team on key projects/business performance issues, in particular Controllership, FP&A, Tax, Risk & Controls, Commercial Bidding, R2A, O2C & S2P
Support the annual financial audit process (internal and external) where required
Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests
Analyse trend variances in the financial results. This includes comparing P&L, working capital and sales pipeline performance with operating plans, forecasts and standards. Interpret and communicate results to the management team
Ensure compliance with prescribed internal controls per AECOM Sarbanes Oxley documentation. This also includes the use and action associated with the sub Delegation of Authority in the UK&I
Ensure career progress and succession planning are in place for direct reports, and comply with performance management and merit planning processes
Participate in weekly finance team calls and act as cascade for wider finance information flow to Business Unit, Project Finance Partner(s), and Project Accountants
Ad-Hoc Support to the Business Line Finance Director
Qualifications
Relevant experience within Operational/Commercial/Controllership/FP&A environment
Professional Finance Qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or Overseas Equivalent) preferably but not essential
Strong working knowledge of Revenue Recognition and Project Accounting
Strong analytical & problem-solving skills are essential
Highly collaborative and perceptive, and shows prudent analysis in problem-solving
Strong leadership skills and be able to manage, train, and develop staff in a respectful and effective manner
Must be pro-active and demonstrate the ability to see things through to the end
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and able to tailor to an audience
Ability to be resourceful, hands-on, and work both independently and as part of a high-performing team
Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple duties in a fast-paced environment.
Works independently as well as part of a team; willingness to work with multiple colleagues on a variety of initiatives
Ability to manage & motivate a regionally spread team
Ability to think creatively and solve problems.
Must be able to provide support and guidance.
