Role: Senior Engineering Manager - Site Specific Design

Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK's premier green export technology.

The Engineering - CSA Installation & Modular Integration team sits at the centre of power station delivery, bringing together multidisciplinary expertise to develop integrated, deployable designs. The team plays a critical role in ensuring our SMR technology can be adapted and deployed successfully across a range of customer sites and international programmes.

In this context, we are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager - Site Specific Design to report to the Chief Integration Engineer and lead a multidisciplinary matrix team of circa 20+ engineers, partners and specialists. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for delivering site-specific power station designs that will support the successful deployment of Rolls-Royce SMRs around the world.

We'll need you to:

  • Providing strategic engineering leadership for the development and delivery of site-specific RR SMR power station designs.

  • Building and leading multidisciplinary teams comprising internal engineers, secondees, suppliers and delivery partners to deliver complex engineering programmes safely and successfully.

  • Directing engineering activities across systems, structures and components throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with programme, regulatory and customer requirements.

  • Managing engineering delivery against key programme milestones, budgets and performance objectives, whilst maintaining clear oversight of risks, opportunities and resource requirements.

  • Owning the integration of site-specific requirements with the generic Rolls-Royce SMR design, ensuring robust configuration control and requirements management.

  • Leading the assessment and implementation of physical adaptation and variant requirements across different sites, regions and customer applications.

  • Collaborating with project management, supply chain, operations, construction and business development teams to ensure engineering solutions are practical, deliverable and commercially viable.

  • Representing the engineering function with customers, regulators, partners and key stakeholders, supporting site development, licensing, environmental approvals and broader programme activities.

  • Supporting the Chief Integration Engineer in monitoring compliance with critical power station objectives, including safety, constructability, schedule, cost and performance targets.

We're looking for:

  • A Chartered Engineer qualification (or equivalent) alongside a relevant engineering degree or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.

  • Proven experience leading large, complex multidisciplinary engineering programmes within the nuclear, power generation, infrastructure or similarly regulated sectors.

  • We'll ask about your experience of managing significant engineering budgets, developing high-performing teams and delivering through matrix organisations.

  • Demonstrable expertise in power station, major infrastructure or complex industrial facility design integration, including interfaces with civil engineering systems, structures and components.

  • Experience working within regulated environments, including engagement with regulators, safety case development, environmental approvals or infrastructure planning processes.

  • A track record of driving engineering performance through effective governance, risk management and delivery leadership.

Location

We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements. The successful candidate should expect regular travel to Rolls-Royce SMR offices, customer locations and project sites as required.

  • We anticipate paying a salary of between £80,000-£105,000 DOE plus:- 

  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 20% (Short Term Incentive) along side a Long-term incentive plan bonus too

  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. 

  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.

Selection Process

The selection process is expected to include an initial discussion with the Talent Acquisition team, followed by formal interview stages with technical and leadership stakeholders.

Due to the safety regulations within the nuclear industry, applicants will be required to participate in additional screening. These are:

  • Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.

  • Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

  • Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check.
