This role is part of our Digital Platform Services team, who are responsible for delivering central services to the divisions in an API first way by utilising AI to pioneer of AI-first development practices.

Tasked with building modern, scalable software solutions using cutting-edge AI tooling to demonstrate what's possible when AI is deeply integrated throughout the entire development lifecycle (SDLC/PDLC).

As a senior engineer, you’ll be a hands-on contributor focused on delivery. You'll ship high-quality code (Java) in fast cycles while showing other engineers how AI transforms productivity, code quality, and development velocity. You'll leverage AI to accelerate every phase of the software development process—from design and implementation to testing and deployment.

AI-Powered Software Development

Build Production-Ready Solutions

• Design and implement scalable microservices with API-first mindset

• Develop RESTful, GraphQL APIs as needed with comprehensive documentation

• Build cloud-native applications using modern architecture patterns

• Deliver well-tested, production-grade code with CI/CD automation

• Ship features quickly using AI to accelerate development cycles

Leverage AI Throughout Development

• Use AI for all coding tasks: feature implementation, refactoring, test creation, documentation, debugging

• Employ Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and LLM APIs to write better code faster

• Apply AI-assisted code analysis, optimization, and security scanning

• Achieve measurable and significant productivity improvements through AI integration

• Demonstrate when to use AI vs when human judgment is critical

API-First & Microservices Excellence

• Design clean, versioned APIs that prioritize developer experience

• Implement event-driven architectures and asynchronous communication patterns

• Build loosely coupled microservices with clear boundaries

• Apply domain-driven design principles and service decomposition strategies

• Create comprehensive API documentation and developer guides

AI Implementation & Automation

Build AI-Powered Development Infrastructure

• Implement Model Context Platform (MCP) servers for improved AI-assisted development and be efficient in using the ones built effectively.

• Create AI-assisted CI/CD pipelines with automated code review, testing, and deployment

• Automate and apply various quality metrics to ensure we go faster without cutting corners.

• Develop reusable AI tooling and templates that other engineers can adopt

• Integrate AI into development workflows for maximum impact

Drive AI Adoption & Best Practices

• Document patterns and share learnings about AI-first development

• Mentor team members on effective AI tool usage and prompt engineering

• Measure and communicate productivity gains from AI integration

• Establish best practices for AI-assisted code generation and review

• Demonstrate practical AI applications that solve real development challenges

Software Engineering Foundation

• 5-10 years of software engineering experience with strong backend expertise

• Proficiency in modern programming languages (Java, Python, Node.js, Go, or similar)

• Experience building and deploying production systems at scale

• Strong understanding of software design patterns and SOLID principles

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

API-First & Microservices Architecture

• Deep knowledge of API design principles and RESTful/GraphQL patterns

• Hands-on experience building and scaling microservices architectures

• Understanding of service mesh, API gateways, and inter-service communication

• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)

• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message queues

AI Implementation (Critical Differentiator)

• Hands-on experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar AI frameworks in helping deliver faster and better

• Demonstrated use of Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI development tools in production work

• Experience implementing AI in CI/CD pipelines (code review, testing, security scanning)

• Built agentic AI solutions or AI-powered automation tools

• Understanding of prompt engineering, model selection, and LLM capabilities/limitations

Proven AI Impact

• Achieved measurable productivity improvements (2-5x) using AI in development

• Implemented AI-assisted refactoring, test generation, or documentation at scale

• Experience with AI code analysis and automated code quality improvements

• Track record of shipping production systems built with significant AI assistance

Technical Skills

Required:

• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Node.js, Go)

• Experience with microservices frameworks (Spring Boot, Express, FastAPI, etc.)

• Database expertise (SQL and NoSQL)

• API design and documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman)

• Version control (Git) and CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI)
• AI coding assistants (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar)
• Usage of observability tools.
