About this opportunity
Do you want to build the pipelines, automation and standards that help our labs deliver faster and more safely across GCP and our private OCP platforms?
We’re the Colleague Channels Platform—the team powering the technology used by colleagues in Branches, Contact Centres and Operations. We deliver shared services and cross‑platform capabilities, working with teams across the Group to simplify and improve colleague journeys. Our Cloud team sets the standards for automation, pipelines, infrastructure and monitoring, staying at the forefront of DevOps technologies and partnering closely with central and feature teams!
This is a senior, hands‑on engineering role where technical depth, quality and sound judgement matter just as much as knowledge‑sharing.
If you want it even tighter, more formal, or more branded, I can refine further!
A Senior Engineer in the Cloud Team, you’ll be responsible for:
Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and monitoring using GitHub, Helm, Harness, Jenkins, IBM DevOps Deploy and Dynatrace.
Build and refine Kubernetes and Istio patterns across GCP and OCP, serving as a technical reference for adopting teams.
Drive automation to reduce toil and improve stability, scalability and performance across DevOps services.
Define and implement platform guardrails and standards to ensure secure, fast delivery.
Use infrastructure-as-code and scripting (e.g., Terraform) to create reliable, repeatable environments.
Partner with feature teams and central groups to coach on build, release and monitoring practices, and mentor junior engineers.
Evaluate emerging technologies and convert successful approaches into reusable delivery patterns.
Raise engineering standards by sharing knowledge, reviewing designs and implementations, and supporting teams in adopting best DevOps practices.
What you’ll need
Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Istio and Helm, alongside solid experience with source code management and orchestration tooling in production environments.
Proven cloud platform experience across public cloud (GCP) and private cloud (OCP/OpenShift), with a practical “keep it simple and reliable” approach with hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform.
Understanding of technical architecture and Microservice design principles.
Experience of continuous monitoring such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus, Kibana.
Strong automation skills (infrastructure as code and scripting such as Python and/or Bash) to reduce manual steps and improve consistency.
A collaborative approach—you build relationships easily, bring people with you, and enjoy helping teams adopt better ways of working.
You take pride in well-engineered solutions and enjoy being the person others turn to for advice, guidance and practical problem-solving.
And any experience of these would be really useful
Experience of common programming languages, frameworks and testing tools e.g. Java Spring Boot/Quarkus, Node.JS & REACT, Selenium, Cucumber, Playwright.
Experience of working with code scanning tools and vulnerability management.
Understanding of networking including segmentation, subnetting, policies, firewalls and routing.
Experience with managing secrets and certificates, working with tools such as Hashi Corp Vault.
Experience of cloud optimisation, FinOps to measure and optimise cloud resources.
Experience with data and streaming technologies such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, Liquibase, Kafka.
