We are seeking a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team in London. This hybrid role allows for remote work, with the requirement of being in the London office once a week. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data infrastructure to support our business needs. Your background in infrastructure and software development, along with your solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), will be essential in this role.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience as a Data Engineer, with a focus on infrastructure and software development
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and associated methodologies
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-based data solutions
- Hands-on experience with data architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing
- Strong knowledge of version control (e.g., Git) and CI/CD processes
- Ability to handle large datasets and optimise systems for performance and scalability
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Key responsibilities & duties include:
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance data pipelines and architectures
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather and define data requirements
- Develop and maintain efficient ETL/ELT processes for data ingestion and transformation
- Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of data platforms and solutions
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Conduct code reviews to ensure best practices and adherence to development standards
- Optimise existing systems and recommend improvements for scalability and performance
- Support and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
Desirable Skills:
- Working knowledge of SQL and experience with relational databases
- Experience with containerisation tools such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
- Familiarity with data governance and security best practices
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka)
- Understanding of DevOps principles and infrastructure as code (IaC)
