As an Analytics Consultant within the Ground Optimisation team, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering the analytical insight and consultancy expertise that help improve how British Airways plans its airport operations and allocates resources.

This role goes beyond crunching numbers — it’s about turning complex operational data into clear, actionable insights that drive performance, support strategic planning, and strengthen the assumptions behind our planning processes and tools.

Working closely with the Principal Manager Optimisation and the Lead Product Data Scientist, you’ll help shape a single source of truth for performance measurement, lead deep-dive analyses to answer high-priority business questions, and ensure data is used effectively and confidently to guide decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver robust analytical insights to support effective decision-making and improve processes and tools for operational planning.
  • Design and develop new metrics and reporting tools that enable consistent performance tracking and operational reviews.
  • Source, integrate, and prepare data from multiple systems to create a single source of truth for analysis and digital decision-support tools.
  • Validate and refine the assumptions underpinning operational planning models and optimisation tools using data-led evidence.
  • Lead deep-dive analyses to address high-priority business questions and inform strategic and operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define analytical requirements, structure complex problems, and align analysis with business goals.
  • Communicate findings clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide expert consultancy to operational teams, helping embed a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to apply data analysis, data science, or statistical techniques to solve real-world business problems.
  • Proven ability to structure complex business challenges and deliver clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with confidence presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable challenging assumptions and influencing stakeholders to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Proficient in SQL and Python, with experience using analytical libraries such as pandas and NumPy.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau for data visualisation and dashboarding.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong consultancy capabilities, including stakeholder engagement, strategic thinking, and managing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Desirable

  • Experience working with large, complex operational datasets, particularly in aviation, logistics, or similar industries.
  • Familiarity with optimisation tools or simulation models used in operational planning.
  • Understanding of data engineering concepts (e.g., ETL pipelines, data quality, and governance).
