The role - Shape the future of small business lending
At iwoca, we’re on a mission to expand access to finance for small businesses. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a sharp, experienced Senior Credit Risk Portfolio Manager for our German business. This role is central to maintaining our strong credit risk culture and ensuring we scale responsibly and sustainably.
You'll work closely with our Chief Credit Officer, Data Scientists, Capital Markets team, and other stakeholders across the business. Your insights will directly influence credit policy, risk appetite, funding strategy, and our ability to serve more customers with confidence.
What you will be doing:
Own the portfolio: Monitor credit performance across the DE portfolio—by product, segment, and risk tier. Spot trends early and drive corrective action.
Be the voice of credit risk: Provide clear, concise reporting on loss rates and credit profile to the Risk Committee and senior leadership.
Support strategic direction: Help shape and manage iwoca’s credit risk appetite and credit policy.
Inform funding strategy: Work with Capital Markets to produce compelling, data-driven risk insights for investors. Ensure we meet performance triggers and concentration limits across funding facilities.
Cross-functional leadership: Bring credit risk expertise to major business initiatives and multi-disciplinary projects.Lead the team: Set a clear agenda for your team, coach and develop talent, and ensure high-quality, impactful delivery.
The requirements
A strong analytical mind: A background in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a similarly quantitative field—or equivalent experience.
Credit risk expertise: 3+ years in a credit risk role at a traditional or fintech lender.
Data-driven problem-solver: Skilled at both framing problems conceptually and executing technical analysis. Hands-on with Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn) and SQL.
Bonus points for experience with Monte Carlo simulations, PyMC3, and Bayesian modeling.
Confident communicator: Able to turn complex analysis into clear, actionable insight for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
People leader: Experience managing analysts or small teams with a focus on coaching and professional development.
Execution-focused: Able to structure and drive work forward independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
The salary
We expect to pay from £100,000 for this role, But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.
