Job Description

The Senior Credit Risk Analyst owns credit insight for a single business division. This is a strategic, business partnering role: you are not here to run reports, you are here to decide what should be measured, build the means to measure it automatically, and then use it to change how the division makes credit decisions. You will act as the credit voice inside your division. Challenging commercial assumptions with evidence, setting the analytical agenda without being directed, and turning a portfolio of manual reporting into a small number of automated, trusted, decision-grade products. Success in this role is measured by the decisions your work changes and the loss it prevents, not by the volume of reporting produced. We will be happy to welcome you to our office in Crewe, with working hours from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 5 pm.

Your daily responsibilities will be

  • Business partnering. Act as the embedded credit analytics partner for your division, working directly with operational, commercial and senior leadership teams to support portfolio performance, risk management and strategic decision-making.
  • Set the analytical agenda. Proactively identify, scope and prioritise analytical opportunities, emerging risks and performance improvement initiatives without relying solely on stakeholder requests. • Re-shape reporting. Review and rationalise existing reporting, ensuring management information is focused on supporting business decisions and delivers measurable value.
  • Automate. Design and implement automated SQL and Tableau reporting and analytics solutions that reduce manual production, improve efficiency and data reliability, and enable analyst time to be focused on insight generation, interpretation and business impact rather than data assembly.
  • Own the insight. Deliver root-cause analysis, trend identification and predictive insights across portfolio performance, default rates, recoveries, bad debt and customer behaviour, presenting recommendations directly to stakeholders.
  • Influence policy. Contribute to the design of credit policy, limit setting etc. bringing divisional evidence into framework decisions. • Influence policy and strategy Provide analytical evidence to support credit strategy, policy development, risk appetite decisions and continuous improvement initiatives across the division.

What do we expect from you?

  • Advanced SQL: able to design, optimise and document multi-stage queries and data models against a large warehouse independently, and to define the data structures others will build on.
  • Advanced Tableau: able to architect dashboards and data sources from scratch, not only maintain existing ones, with a clear view of what belongs on a dashboard and what does not.
  • Advanced Excel: able to build, stress-test and defend models used in decision-making.
  • Proven ability to automate manual reporting processes end to end and demonstrate the time and risk saved.
  • Strong commercial judgement: Able to interpret portfolio performance, identify key drivers and emerging risks, and translate complex data into clear recommendations that support operational and strategic decision making.
  • Credibility with senior audiences and business partnering capability: Proven ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders, influence business decisions through evidence-based, data-driven insight, and confidently present and defend findings and recommendations to divisional leadership.
  • Self-directed and strategically focused: Able to identify opportunities for performance improvement, determine analytical priorities and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • Strong grounding in credit and risk principles: exposure, default, recovery, provisioning and portfolio monitoring, and the judgement to apply them to live customer decisions.

Qualifications

No specific formal qualifications are required; however, a degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Significant experience delivering credit, risk, portfolio analytics or commercial analytics within a complex business environment is essential. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a track record of influencing business decisions through data-driven insight, leading analytical projects, and delivering automation or process improvement initiatives. This role is expected to lead analytical work and represent the department to divisional leadership.

Additional Information

What to expect from us?

  • A friendly culture that reflects our proposition to customers.
  • A fast-growing organization that defines itself as agile and innovative.
  • A drive for continuous improvement, which will give you the opportunity to support from day one.
  • A commitment to building a work environment that values inclusivity, innovation, agility and grit.

And, of course, competitive pay, a potential bonus, and a good range of basic benefits.
